Rion Vale's POV
I leaned back in my car seat, staring blankly at the city lights outside. Two years… it's been two years since I opened my eyes in this strange world — a world without alphas, betas, or omegas. No pheromones. No scent bonds. No second genders.
And yet, here I am — a pure-blooded alpha, trapped among humans who have no idea what I really am.
When I first woke up in this body — the body of Rion Vale, CEO of Vale Biotech Corporation — I thought I could adapt. I thought I could survive without a mate. But lately… it's getting harder. The suppressants I created for myself are losing their effect. Each rut is worse than the last — more painful, more desperate.
I've designed hundreds of formulas, but none can silence the beast inside me. I want an omega. I want my omega. But in this world, such beings don't exist.
To everyone else, I'm a normal man — cold, distant, brilliant.
But inside… I'm a dying flame fighting against my own instincts.
My driver's voice breaks my thoughts. "Sir, we've arrived."
The car stops in front of a luxurious hotel. A business party. I hate these events — too many smiles, too much noise. But tonight, I have to attend. This party is hosted by Global Supply Group, one of the largest pharmaceutical networks. If I want the new contract, I can't let my rival Evan Lee win it.
Especially him.
I step out of the car, adjusting my coat and cufflinks. The cool night air can't calm the fire under my skin. My secretary follows me quietly as I enter the glittering hall filled with laughter, wine, and the faint clinking of glasses.
Mr. Kwon spots me and waves. I force a polite smile, pushing my discomfort down. Don't worry, Rion. You've taken your suppressants. If your rut worsens, you have the control injection.
I take my seat at the table, trying to focus on the conversation — until I feel his gaze.
Evan Lee.
My greatest rival. The man who runs Lee BioHealth Systems — ambitious, cunning, dangerously charming. Rumor said the real Rion Vale was poisoned by him before I woke up in this body. I never found proof… but every time I see his face, I feel the same burning hatred mixed with something I can't explain.
He's standing across the hall, talking to investors, the corner of his lips slightly curved. Our eyes lock. His gaze is sharp — the kind that cuts through a room effortlessly. I sip my wine to distract myself — but the moment the liquid hits my tongue, I feel it.
The rush.
The heat.
My vision blurs. My heart races. No... not now.
I tug at my tie, breathing heavily. Evan's gaze follows me, and I swear I see a faint smirk on his lips. Did he... do something to my drink?
I quickly excuse myself and rush toward the restroom. Inside, I lean against the counter, panting. My skin burns, every nerve screaming. "Shit…" I whisper, fumbling with my coat pocket. I take out the small silver case and pull out the emergency injection, plunging it into my arm.
But it's too late. The heat doesn't fade.
Then the door opens — and Evan Lee walks in.
He freezes for a second, eyes narrowing when he sees the injection box. "What the hell are you doing, Vale?"
My breath hitches. His voice makes it worse. My pheromones — black orchid, deep and heavy — start leaking uncontrollably. He flinches, glancing around. "What is that scent?"
I step forward, my eyes dark. "What did you do this time, Evan? Did you mix something in my drink?"
He frowns. "Are you insane? I didn't do anything." His gaze flicks to the syringe. "What's that? Are you... addicted to something?"
"None of your business," I growl, shoving the case back into my coat. I try to walk past him, but my knees buckle. The world spins.
Before I can fall, strong hands catch me.
"Hey—Vale!" His voice sounds distant. He drags me into one of the nearby hotel rooms and lays me down on the bed. "You're burning up. What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Sick, Mr. Vale?" A teasing glint in his eyes. "Who would've thought the great CEO of Vale Biotech Corporation could look this weak? If the media finds out, your perfect empire might just crumble."
I clutch the sheets, teeth gritted. "My rut…"
"What?"
He leans closer — and I inhale his scent. Not alpha, not omega. But different.
Fresh rain and white tea. Pure, clean, maddening.
A human body scent....
My instincts snap.
Before he can move, I grab his waist and flip him onto the bed. "Rion—what the hell are you doing?!"
I don't answer. I'm lost in his scent, pressing closer. I trace my lips near his neck, feeling the pulse under his skin.
"Get off me!" he shouts, pushing at my chest, but my strength is beyond human now.
I whisper against his skin, voice rough and trembling, "If this world has no omegas... then I'll make one."
To be continued...
