Chapter 62: Just A Fanon

Looking at their reactions, Dudley could only sigh.

"In our muggle kingdom, there was a royal family that decided to marry within the family. Over time, their descendants became worse, some developed disabilities, and the last king became infertile," said Dudley.

"That family?" asked Hermione.

"Yes, Hermione, you're right," replied Dudley.

"So, Dudley, according to you, we need to marry muggle-borns?" asked Hannah Abbott.

"Yes, especially for you, Hannah," replied Dudley.

"Why me?" asked Hannah, a bit confused about why Dudley mentioned her.

"Your father is a pure-blood wizard, and your mother is a muggle, which means there's a probability that your next child could be a squib," said Dudley.

"What?" The girls were shocked.

"Wait a minute, Dudley, actually both of my parents are wizards—my mother is muggle-born witch," replied Susan.

Dudley, who had been confident earlier, now looked shocked.

"Your mother isn't a muggle?" asked Dudley.

"No, she's a muggle-born witch," replied Susan.

Hearing this, Dudley felt ashamed. He had read fanfiction where a Death Eater attacked the Abbott family, and Hannah's mother was killed because she was a muggle. But now he realized that Hannah's mother was actually a muggle-born witch.

This is what happens when you read too much fanfiction, you start getting confused and thinking fanon is canon. The same thing happened to Dudley, something he believed to be canon was actually just fan-made content from a fanfiction author.

---Susan Bones POV---

Meanwhile, Susan had a different reaction. Hearing the story about Argus Filch and the results of the experiment made Susan think back to the last time she stayed with the Dursley family.

There was one moment she couldn't forget, it was the day Dudley explained the origin of magic and how pure-blood society's children could become squibs. But then, Dudley did something outrageous. Yes, Dudley brazenly proposed to her out of nowhere, making her very angry, and it was one moment she couldn't forget to this day. Many emotions played out during that time: anger, happiness, and confusion.

Today, she saw proof of the experiment that Dudley had done, and the more she heard and read about it, the more frightened she became.

The pure-blood society would end or destroy by itself if they didn't adopt a new policy, which, of course, would mean accepting muggle-borns as a new blood and no longer suppressing them.

Then, hearing about Hannah Abbott's family and her mother made Susan reconsider Dudley's proposal.

Dudley was good-looking, had become thinner and more energetic than before, and was also the top student at Hogwarts, even surpassing Hermione in an exam. He seemed like the perfect choice for a husband, but she had rejected him before by hitting him until he fainted. There was no way she could bring up the proposal again.

---Argus Determination---

While they were talking, Argus suddenly asked a question.

"Is there a way for me to have a wizard son?" asked Argus.

"Hmm, a son? Do you want to get married?" replied Dudley. The other girls were also curious about Argus' marital status.

"I've never been married," said Argus.

His parents had been disappointed with him, which left a big emotional scar. Since then, he didn't want to marry and further disappoint his parents by giving them a squib grandson. So, he tried to get closer to the magical community, even working at Hogwarts.

He had hoped that one day he might become a wizard, even though he knew it was foolish and that a squib could never become a wizard. Yet, he still held onto that hope.

"Well, there is a way. If you marry a muggle-born witch, your son might inherit the magic that you don't have," said Dudley. "Like I said, muggle-borns are essentially new blood; our blood can fix your twisted DNA."

"Really?" Argus said in disbelief. His solution was actually right in front of him.

"Yes, there's a 95% chance. Beyond that, we'd need more data," said Dudley.

"But I'm too old. Which muggle-born witch would marry me?" Argus asked.

Everyone went silent. Even the girls didn't know what to say to help him. Argus was already old, and he had remained unmarried due to his obsession with magic.

"Do you have money?" asked Dudley. "I mean, a lot?"

Hearing this, Argus remembered all his savings from working at Hogwarts. Due to his jealousy toward wizards, he never cared about money; all that mattered to him was catching students and punishing them.

Regular Hogwarts teachers earned 275 galleons per week, while Argus' salary started at 100 galleons per week. Over time, his salary increased to 212 galleons per week. He only spent around 10 galleons per month, so he had saved around 200,000 galleons. Even though he hadn't inherited money from his parents, there was still around 70,000 galleons left in Gringotts.

"I… I have a lot of money. I've been saving for over 20 years," said Argus.

Hearing this, Dudley just smiled and said, "Your problem can be solved. You know, there are some muggle-born witches without proper jobs. Some of them are just surviving because the Ministry doesn't support them."

"Do you mean…?"

"Yes, try proposing to one of them. Tell them you'll support them with all the money you have," said Dudley. "How much do you have?"

"More than 200,000 galleons. If I can access Gringotts, it could reach 300,000 galleons," replied Argus.

Everyone was shocked. They had no idea Argus was so filthy rich.

"How do you have so much money?" asked Dudley.

"Mr. Argus, is it true you have over 200,000 galleons?" the girls asked.

"Yes, I only spend a little each month—around 10 galleons," said Argus. "That's how I've managed to save so much."

"Wait, you mentioned Gringotts," said Hermione.

"Yes, but since I'm a squib, I can't enter Gringotts," replied Argus.

"Wait, so where do you keep all your money?" asked Dudley.

"It's in my room. I have a secret space where I store it," replied Argus.

"So the money was kept inside the Hogwarts castle?" asked Dudley.

"Yeah, it was a safe place for me," smiled Argus.
