On the training grounds, Fujiwara Chiya introduced the newcomer to his three Horse Girls.
"Fujiwara..."
"Shirayuki?"
"I smell a conspiracy."
A girl wearing a boat-shaped hat pinched her chin, her expression serious.
"Could it be that Fujiwara Shirayuki is the trainer's..." a timid-looking girl with chestnut-colored shoulder-length hair and a white streak in her bangs whispered.
That's right, these two were the Horse Girls currently under Fujiwara Chiya's charge.
First, Gold Ship.
Calling their meeting "bizarre" would be an understatement; it was pure fraud.
It was Chiya's first day at Tracen Academy. Unfamiliar with the place, he got lost in the massive school grounds and happened upon a gray-haired girl sitting by a flowerbed.
At the time, she wasn't wearing that strange hat. Her hair was down, the soft strands swaying in the wind. The elegant curve of her slightly raised, pale neck extending to her collarbone made her look like a gray swan.
Upon seeing Chiya, the gray-haired girl raised an eyebrow and spoke softly, "Are you also lost in this academy?"
"Yes."
"What a coincidence, so am I." She looked up at the sky, her beautiful pink eyes filled with sorrow. "Even though I'm right here, no one seems to be able to find me..."
Her pink lips parted as she looked at him.
"You're the first person who's spoken to me."
He was speechless. It was the first time Chiya had ever seen a girl so mysterious and alluring. After a moment, he managed to speak, "I'm a new trainer who just arrived at Tracen today. Are you a student here?"
"A new trainer?" Hearing this, the gray-haired girl's eyes flickered. "Yes, I am a student at Tracen, but soon... I won't be anymore."
"Why?"
"Because no trainer can find this lost soul. So, even if I were to disappear one day, I doubt this academy would even notice."
Looking at her smile, which seemed both resigned and reluctant, Chiya's heart was stirred.
"If you don't mind, would you let me be your trainer?"
"I may only be a rookie, but I will do everything in my power to train you and bring you back before the world's eyes."
"Really? Are you truly willing?"
"Of course," Chiya said, his tone firm. He was completely captivated by her mystique.
"Then please sign this form and complete our contract."
"Okay." Without a second thought, Chiya signed the training form she handed him.
Just as he put down the pen, believing his protagonist powers had kicked in and he had lucked into finding such a precious Horse Girl on his very first day, the gray-haired girl lowered her head, and then—
"YOSHAAA—!! The contract is sealed! From today on, you're my master! Nice to meet ya, Trainer-san! Hontoni arigato!"
Her entire demeanor shifted. The girl who had just been exuding an otherworldly charm flashed an exaggerated grin that didn't fit her persona at all. She folded the training form, stuffed it into her pocket, spouted a bunch of nonsensical words at him, and then zipped off, disappearing from sight. All that was left was Fujiwara Chiya, standing stunned in the wind.
That evening, he received a notification that Gold Ship had officially become his Horse Girl.
He later found out that due to her erratic personality, no trainer had been willing to sign with her until then.
Her sitting by the flowerbed was clearly a trap! She was just waiting for an inexperienced rookie like him to take the bait!
On his very first day, Chiya realized the harsh reality of Tracen. All his ambitions and hopes had been shattered by Gold Ship.
Next was the second member, Meisho Doto.
Their meeting was also bizarre. After being deceived by Gold Ship, Chiya became more cautious and refused to sign with anyone casually. He decided to take the initiative, observe potential candidates, and only when the time was right would he pull out a prepared training form for them to sign.
For convenience, he pre-signed his name on a form and put it in his pocket.
This careless act would be the root of his future troubles.
That same day, as he was leaving the main building, Chiya collided head-on with Meisho Doto. He was sent flying by two large, soft objects and woke up in the infirmary, with Meisho Doto sitting beside him, apologizing profusely.
The incident itself wasn't a big deal—just a careless Horse Girl running too fast and knocking someone over. But then things got ridiculous. When Chiya returned to his dorm, he couldn't find his training form anywhere. As he was frantically searching, a message came from the student council.
'Meisho Doto has been successfully registered as Trainer Fujiwara Chiya's Horse Girl.'
Chiya was completely baffled.
When did Meisho Doto become his Horse Girl?
He later learned that when she had knocked him over, the training form had fallen out of his pocket. In her panic, she had picked it up and put it in her own pocket, then completely forgot about it. That day also happened to be the deadline for submitting feedback forms for a Tracen event.
As a result, Meisho Doto had pulled out Chiya's training form by mistake. Seeing the blank space for the Horse Girl's name, she wrote her own name without thinking.
The class president, upon checking the forms, saw the training contract, assumed Doto had submitted it to the wrong pile, and kindly submitted it to the student council on her behalf.
And that was how she mysteriously became Fujiwara Chiya's Horse Girl.
A series of unbelievable coincidences had collided, leaving Chiya speechless.
Although she kept apologizing and said she would explain to the student council and terminate the contract immediately, Chiya considered that since the process was already complete, terminating on the very first day might give others a bad impression of him. He decided it was better to just go with the flow and let her become his Horse Girl.
"If you don't mind, I would be very happy," Meisho Doto had replied.
Chiya later discovered that this Horse Girl was a complete klutz. If he scheduled training for 1 PM, she would wake up at 1 AM. If he told her to wear her training uniform, she would show up in slippers. She would trip on flat ground, miss steps on stairs, and could even fall over while just standing still!
It was a miracle she had survived this long.
And so, the second oddball of the team was born.
"That's right." Facing Meisho Doto's question, Chiya answered frankly. "She is my cousin."
"Cousin," the last, petite girl on the team spoke.
"Onii-sama's cousin..."
