[Bip! Lilia's favor increased by 1]
[Bip! Barbarian's favor increased by 1]
Again, two more messages flashed. Lilia and the barbarian both had higher favor with him.
He felt happy. It seemed like food was a good way to control the locals in this world.
Maybe he could not only control Lilia, but also control these barbarians.
"No more," Leo said helplessly. He wanted to make more roast meat, but there was only so much food.
Everyone knew food was precious. They had no choice but to leave and get back to work.
Leo also put out the fire and looked at Lilia, asking, "Do you have a way to leave here?"
She shook her head. "Even if we could leave, without a boat, we couldn't get off this island."
"True," Leo sighed. He leaned against the shack and soon felt very tired. A little while later, he started to snore softly.
Lilia looked at him and was a bit stunned. Her face also looked tired. They hadn't had a good rest for days since they were on the sea.
She hesitated for a moment, looked at the small shack, and then lay down next to Leo. Soon she fell into a deep sleep too.
At night, Leo was woken up by loud noises.
It was completely dark outside. A group of barbarian warriors, holding weapons, were facing off with Lilia, looking angry and dangerous.
"What's going on?" Leo quickly got up from the ground and looked at Lilia, who was standing in front of him.
"There's a ship group. Two big ships. These people think we brought them here," she explained, then added in a low voice, "The captain of that silent ship was among them. Maybe it really was us who brought them here."
"Is that true?" Leo frowned. He knew that guy, Captain Karl, who was even more cruel than his first mate. If they were caught by him, they would surely die.
He didn't expect that guy to be so lucky. He was still alive and brought two big ships.
If they could take those two ships, maybe they could leave.
He was thinking about it and asked, "How many people are on the ships? How many barbarian warriors are there?"
Lilia thought for a second and said, "Those two ships had about seventy fighters, and all of them were trained soldiers. The barbarians had more than a hundred people, but only thirty warriors. Even if I joined, we still couldn't beat those soldiers."
"That's really tricky," Leo said, looking at the weapons the barbarians had. They were just simple bows and stone spears.
Fighting trained soldiers with that stuff was impossible.
He looked around the area and quickly came up with a plan. He said, "Lilia, tell them to follow my orders. I can help them beat the human soldiers."
"Really?" Lilia looked at him doubtfully, but she still translated for the barbarians.
The barbarians shouted angrily and didn't trust Leo at all.
Finally, the old man stepped forward and talked to Lilia.
She looked at Leo and explained, "They can trust you, but you have to swear in the name of The God of Flame that you won't hurt them."
Leo was speechless. He didn't believe in The God of Flame at all.
But he still said, "Okay, I agree."
Aelia translated again: "The priest is asking what you need to do."
Leo looked around and said, "Use the terrain. The human soldiers don't know this place. They won't attack at night. We can set traps then."
He explained his plan in detail.
The barbarians had no chance in a direct fight. They had to use the forest to their advantage.
He had also looked around and saw a big valley nearby. It looked like it was made by an earthquake or a tsunami. And there was also an active volcano on the island.
If they led the enemy into that valley, the barbarians could hide on the top and throw big rocks and logs. Even the strongest soldiers wouldn't survive.
Lilia looked at him in surprise and started to translate.
The priest frowned and looked confused. He asked what a trap was.
Leo sighed. These barbarians hunted for a living, but they didn't even know what a trap was.
He had to explain again. Pit traps, nets, logs, rocks…
Lilia was stunned. She looked at Leo with a cold face and said, "Humans are really dangerous. They can come up with so many evil ways."
"Evil? That's normal. You haven't seen real evil yet," Leo said with no concern.
"Hmph!" Lilia frowned and translated to the priest.
Then the barbarians started setting up the traps under Leo's orders.
It was dark, and fires were lit on the shore. The soldiers were on guard.
He was right. These guys wouldn't attack at night.
In the early morning, they got a message. The soldiers had moved out. They formed a line and started going into the forest.
Leo and the others were hiding on top of the valley. There were already a lot of big logs and rocks ready.
He looked at the barbarian warriors and Lilia and said again, "Remember, you lead the enemy into the traps you set, but don't trigger them yourself. Lilia, your job is the most important. Make sure you lead the remaining soldiers into the valley and give them the final hit."
"Leave it to me," Lilia nodded and led the barbarians away into the forest.
Only the old, weak, and women were left on top of the valley.
They just needed to push down the big rocks and logs. That would be enough.
"KILL!"
Suddenly, there was a loud fight and shouting in the forest.
They had already met the soldiers.
Leo felt nervous. He wasn't sure if the barbarians would follow his plan.
In the forest, a group of soldiers in armor, with bows, crossbows, and spears, ran in.
They shot immediately, aiming for the barbarians' legs, not the heads.
They weren't here to kill. They were here to capture and sell the barbarians as slaves.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a bent tree trunk shot up, and a big net fell down over them.
"Watch out! There are traps!" The leader of the soldiers shouted and cut at the net with his sword.
Zing!
From the forest, several arrows flew out. A few soldiers screamed and fell down, hit in the vital spots. All of them died instantly.
"Damn it!" The leader fought hard to get out of the net.
The big net was just made of rough fibers. It couldn't hold them.
The barbarians were fast. After the arrow attack, they quickly pulled back. In the thick forest, they moved like they were on a path.
Lilia was among them.
"Elven girl!"
"Come on, chase her!" The leader saw Lilia and shouted excitedly, then ran after her with his men.
Suddenly, a few of them stepped into nothing and screamed. They had fallen into a big pit filled with sharpened wooden spikes.
"Someone from that human must have helped the lowly barbarians. Catch him and kill him!" The leader shouted angrily.
He had been to Flame Island before and fought the barbarians. Those guys were just stupid and kept attacking. They didn't know how to run, let alone set traps.
"Stay alert, don't fall for another trap," he reminded the group and hid behind the others.
The soldiers slowed down and carefully avoided the traps.
But the barbarians and Lilia kept attacking them, which made them really frustrated. Their losses kept increasing.
Out of the seventy soldiers, less than fifty made it through the forest. And seventeen of them were injured, making their fighting power drop a lot.
They were now in a bare, open field. Lilia revealed her position and ran into the big valley in panic.
"Hmph, I don't think you have any more tricks. Go after her!" The leader felt relieved. This place was just rocks and stones. There was no way to set a trap.
The soldiers weren't careful at all and ran into the valley.
Leo watched them closely, feeling nervous.
Finally, they reached the ambush spot.
"Go!" He shouted and pushed a big log down the valley.
Crash!
The ground shook. Rocks and broken logs kept falling from both sides of the valley.
"Watch out! There's a trap!" The leader was scared and tried to run back, but it was too late.
The way back was already blocked by rocks and logs.
Bang!
A big rock hit a soldier, who screamed and fell down, his head broken open. He was crushed into a mess by the falling rock.
"Help!"
"Run!"
The soldiers screamed as their formation broke apart. Their armor was strong, but it couldn't stop the big rocks and logs.
In just a few moments, more than forty of them were dead or injured. Only the leader and two of his men were still in good shape.
"KILL!" Lilia shouted and came out from behind the rocks.
The remaining three couldn't match her.
"Low-life human, you will be punished by The God of Light!" The leader cursed as he was killed by Lilia's sword.
Fifty soldiers were all wiped out, and the barbarians only lost two and had five injured.
