Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Evil Wolf Pirates

Later on, Kurou would learn that the sharp‑tongued girl from earlier was named Vierdan, the daughter of a village chief from another nearby island. She was only fifteen, but a true beauty , her doll‑like face exquisitely delicate, her graceful figure outlined to perfection, the kind that could make a man's blood stir. And yes, she and Kurou would go on to have a story of their own…

But that's for later.

Kurou first learned about the wanted pirates from the mouth of an old woman.

She was in her seventies, kind‑faced and gentle, radiating a warmth that made Kurou feel at ease , the only person since he'd set foot on the island who hadn't mocked him.

She explained that there were three islands nearby. Two were home to peaceful villages. The third was firmly in the hands of a pirate crew.

The village Kurou stood in now was called Westtown, and six nautical miles away lay Easttown.

A year ago a pirate crew had invaded these waters. The two villages joined forces to resist under the leadership of Farmer, the chief of Easttown and Vierdan's father, and Miller, a nearly forty‑year‑old retired Marine major known as the "Guardian" of both villages. Skilled in martial arts, Miller was the only one who could stand up to the pirates at all.

The pirate crew was called the Evil Wolf Pirates, led by two brothers. The younger brother, Anderlin, was the vice‑captain, over 2.5 meters tall, monstrously strong, and carried a bounty of 5 million Berries.

The older brother, Anderson, was even more dangerous , the captain and a Devil Fruit user with a bounty of 10 million Berries.

When the Evil Wolf Pirates first invaded, Farmer rallied the villagers and Miller led them in battle. The fighting was fierce and ended in a near stalemate, though the villages suffered heavy damage.

At first both sides signed a "non‑aggression" pact. But as the Evil Wolf Pirates grew stronger, Anderson's demands became outrageous. He began extorting "protection money" from the two villages, threatening to massacre them if they refused.

The villagers were peaceful folk. Another fight like the last one would devastate them again , and now, with Anderson's power, the odds were grim. They had no choice but to comply, paying 10,000 Berries per person per month. Anyone who resisted was killed without mercy.

Even Miller, the so‑called Guardian, was powerless to stop it.

Still, the villagers said that it was Miller's presence alone that kept Anderson from going too far. Paying was better than being wiped out. They depended on him and respected him deeply.

After hearing all this, Kurou frowned. "If Anderson's this arrogant, why doesn't the Navy step in?"

Judging by what he knew of the timeline, this was still several years before Luffy's journey began. Back now, a 10‑million‑Berry bounty in the East Blue was enormous , even Buggy the Clown was only at 6 million.

The old woman gave a knowing smile. "They're in league with the Navy. Everyone knows it. Nobody dares say it aloud."

It clicked for Kurou. This was just like Arlong in Cocoyasi Village. Arlong had run rampant across twenty villages, taxing them heavily while claiming to be the strongest pirate in the East Blue with a 20‑million‑Berry bounty. Even so, the Navy had turned a blind eye.

Of course, that was a story for later.

Kurou now understood why the villagers had glared at him when he asked about bounty targets. If even someone like Miller hadn't been able to deal with these pirates, who did this scrawny kid think he was? Go home and take a look at yourself…

Having learned the situation, Kurou thanked the old woman and left.

After days at sea and his battle with the Sea King, his stomach was growling.

He didn't even have half a Berry on him.

So a great idea formed in his mind ,

Dine and dash.

He found a decent‑looking restaurant, walked in like a king, and said, "Boss, one super‑sized egg fried rice!"

Several diners recognized him. He'd just been going around asking about wanted criminals.

When the fried rice arrived, Kurou wolfed it down with both hands. The sight of him devouring his meal drew stares.

"That's the kid who was asking about bounty targets."

"What a joke. This guy doesn't know how big the world really is."

Across the room, a beautiful girl was watching him with open disdain , none other than Vierdan. She turned to her father. "Daddy, this guy actually asked me where the pirates were earlier. I think he's brain‑damaged."

Farmer glanced at Kurou. Pale, slender, scholarly , hardly the type to spill blood on the tip of a blade. With that frail frame, how could he possibly stand against pirates?

People always judge strangers by appearances. Kurou, hunched over the counter eating like a starving wolf, only invited more sneers.

"He's not just crazy. He's got no manners. Look at the way he eats."

Kurou ignored the whispers and kept eating.

Then-

Bang!

A deafening crash as the door slammed open. A massive figure strode into the restaurant.

Everyone's eyes turned from Kurou.

It was Anderlin, vice‑captain of the Evil Wolf Pirates!

He stood a towering 2.5 meters tall, fat as a hill, his face a mass of muscle and blubber. Half‑meter‑long nose hairs jutted from his nostrils. In his hand he carried a giant executioner's blade, and behind him trailed two scrawny henchmen as he swaggered inside…
