Chapter 25 - ch24

Jay blinked awake to the soft glow of sunlight spilling through the dorm window. Her mind was still foggy, heavy with sleep, when she realized… something felt warm.

Warm… and close.

She shifted slightly and froze.

Keifer's arm was draped over her waist.

For half a second, she thought she was still dreaming. But then Keifer mumbled something into the pillow — something that sounded suspiciously like "five more minutes" — and that was enough proof.

Jay's eyes widened.

"…Keifer?" she whispered.

He didn't move.

She turned a little more, and that's when she saw him — face relaxed, hair completely messed up, breathing slow and even. He looked… peaceful. Almost soft. A version of him she never saw when he was awake and sarcastic.

Jay whispered again, louder.

"Keifer."

This time he blinked awake slowly, like his brain needed a full reboot before functioning. His eyes opened halfway and focused… directly on her.

There was a full two seconds of silence.

Then—

"…Why are you in my bed?" he asked groggily.

Jay raised a brow. "YOUR bed? This is MY bed!"

He lifted his head, squinting around. "Oh. So it is."

Jay shoved his shoulder lightly. "How did you even get here?!"

Keifer sat up, rubbing his face. "I think I rolled over."

She stared at him. "Rolled over… across the room?"

He blinked again. "We moved the beds together last week because the heater was broken, remember?"

Jay's mouth formed a small "oh."

He smirked. "So technically, I did just roll over."

Jay, suddenly very aware they were still sitting close, cleared her throat and scooted an inch away — which did absolutely nothing because they were basically still touching.

Keifer noticed and grinned wider. "Relax, Jay. It's not like I bite."

"Good," she shot back, "because I'd bite back."

He laughed — that low, sleepy laugh that sounded unfairly cute. "Noted."

They sat there for a moment, facing each other, hair messy, still half asleep… but strangely comfortable. No yelling, no arguments, no awkwardness — just a quiet moment neither of them really wanted to move from.

Then Jay's eyes suddenly grew wide.

"KEIFER!" she yelped, scrambling up.

"We overslept! Our flight is in three hours!"

Keifer looked down at his phone and nearly jumped out of bed.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me—"

And just like that, the peaceful morning shattered as they both launched into full panic mode — Jay rushing to brush her hair while shouting instructions, and Keifer trying to put on his hoodie inside-out.
