Chapter 18 - The Cross for Sealing

Inside the café.

Arthur said, "To me, becoming friends with you, Moka, is already a wonderful thing. That's why I'm happy."

"Really…"

Hearing him say that, Akashiya Moka's heart leapt with joy.

Her eyes curved like crescent moons, and her smile was sweet.

She said happily, "Actually, I also feel super happy to have become friends with you, Arthur."

The thought of returning to the Yōkai Realm had already faded from her mind.

Back then, she'd wanted to go back because she was all alone.

But that was then—now was different.

Now, she has met Arthur.

Since she was no longer alone, there was no need to leave anymore.

Their eyes met, and both smiled.

Arthur's gaze drifted downward, landing on the cross pendant hanging at Moka's chest. With deliberate curiosity, he asked:

"By the way, Moka, your necklace seems a bit special. It doesn't look like an ordinary accessory, right?"

"This…"

Moka lowered her head to glance at the pendant. Looking back up, her face was bright with a gentle smile as she explained:

"Actually, this isn't my true form right now. This necklace seals away my powers. If I take it off, I'll revert to my real self—a powerful vampire."

She wasn't trying to hide anything.

Toward Arthur, she felt a trust far beyond normal.

Even if they had only just met yesterday.

"So it's a seal."

Arthur nodded in realization, then asked curiously:

"If it's a seal, then what happens if it accidentally comes off? Would that hurt you?"

Moka shook her head with a smile.

"No, it just restores me to my real form. Besides, this seal is very hard to remove."

"I see."

Arthur nodded knowingly, then smiled.

"Actually, I'd really like to see what your real self looks like."

"Excuse me, sorry to bother you."

The waiter arrived at that moment with the cappuccino Moka had ordered, setting it in front of her.

"Please enjoy."

"Thank you."

Moka politely thanked him.

After the waiter left, Arthur smiled and asked:

"So, Moka, where do you want to go today?"

He honestly didn't mind where they went.

What mattered was spending time with Moka and deepening their bond.

Since she had invited him, naturally, the choice of destination should be hers.

"How about the amusement park?"

Moka blinked her big eyes, looking at Arthur with a bright smile, seeking his opinion.

"Sure."

Arthur nodded.

Seeing his agreement, Moka's face bloomed into an even happier smile.

They chatted casually over their drinks.

But Moka's mind kept circling back to something Arthur had said earlier.

"Actually, I'd really like to see what your real self looks like…"

Her real self.

Moka felt a little dazed.

She had worn this cross for as long as she could remember.

She had never once managed to take it off.

As a child, curiosity had driven her to try.

But she failed.

It seemed she couldn't remove it herself.

So even she didn't know what her real self looked like.

Not even her foster parents knew.

Half an hour later.

Arthur and Moka arrived at their first destination of the day—

the classic date spot: an amusement park.

After buying tickets, Moka immediately took Arthur's hand and led him inside with a smile of pure delight.

"What should we ride first?"

She glanced around, then turned to him.

"Arthur, what do you want to try?"

"Me…"

Arthur skimmed through the list of attractions. After a moment, he smiled.

"How about the roller coaster?"

"Alright, let's go!"

Moka agreed happily, tugging Arthur toward the ride.

He let her lead him along, his lips curving upward as he watched her childlike excitement. His gaze softened.

From the moment they met, she had hardly stopped smiling.

He could clearly feel her trust and affection toward him—genuine and pure.

At the roller coaster platform, they waited in line.

Watching the ride in motion, Moka pulled her gaze back and looked at Arthur curiously.

"Arthur, I heard roller coasters are really scary. Some people even cry. Is that true?"

"It's true."

Arthur chuckled. "The sudden physical shock can be too much for some people."

"I see…"

Her eyes flickered, showing a hint of unease.

It seemed she was worried about embarrassing herself.

Sensing it, Arthur gently placed his hand on her head, ruffling her pink hair softly.

Their eyes met.

He smiled warmly, as if to say, 'Don't worry, I'm here.'

Feeling his reassuring touch and seeing his gentle smile, Moka's unease melted away.

Her face flushed slightly, but her smile bloomed brighter.

Aside from a little shyness, she was full of joy.

"I'm full, I'm full, stop spilling, I can't eat anymore…"

The nearby people waiting in line all silently groaned at the overdose of dog food.

Some looked at the two with envy.

The men envied Arthur—

for having such a beautiful girlfriend.

The women envied Moka—

for having such a handsome boyfriend.

But there was no jealousy.

The two were simply too attractive, far beyond the realm of envy.

All anyone could do was sigh, "Why couldn't I be one of them?"

After twenty minutes, Arthur and Moka finally boarded the roller coaster.

Sitting side by side, their right and left hands laced together tightly.

The ride started, slowly climbing toward the first drop.

Moka's heart climbed with it.

Her grip on Arthur's hand unconsciously tightened.

When the coaster suddenly plunged downward at top speed, her pupils shrank, her cheeks flushed, her breath caught, and her heart raced.

"Ahhh~~~"

Screams erupted from behind them.

At the second drop, Arthur let out a cheerful shout, just like an ordinary rider, enjoying the thrill to the fullest.

He didn't hold back his excitement.

Moka glanced at him, a little surprised.

"Ahhhh!!!"

By the third drop, she no longer suppressed her emotions either, crying out with exhilaration.

The roller coaster roared through loop after loop, dive after dive, with both of them laughing and shouting together.

Finally, the ride slowed to a stop at the end.

They got off and sat down on a nearby bench to catch their breath.

"Hold still."

Arthur reached toward her.

Under her slightly puzzled gaze, he gently smoothed her slightly messy pink hair back into place.

"All done."

He withdrew his hand with a smile.

"Thank you, Arthur."

Moka's cheeks flushed red, and she smiled softly.

Her eyes lingered on him, filled with tenderness—

and a hint of heat.
