Hiruzen Sarutobi nearly choked on a plume of smoke. "Cough, cough... One hundred missions?! Forget whether you could even finish them, what would be left for the other genin if I gave them all to you?!" He glanced at Kakashi. "You can't just let them run wild."
Kakashi scratched his head, offering a sheepish smile. "Well, I kind of agreed to it, since they completed the cat-finding mission so quickly, and... It may sound immodest, but Team 7 is indeed the strongest."
"Kakashi, why are you joining in their nonsense?" Hiruzen sighed. "Alright, I can assign you a few more tasks." He casually picked out seven or eight mission scrolls and handed them to Kakashi, who passed them to Naruto without even looking.
"Naruto, I've accepted the missions. How long it takes you to complete them is your business," Kakashi said. "But you can't just brag in front of the Hokage."
Naruto laughed, clutching the huge pile of scrolls. "Don't worry, Kakashi-sensei, Lord Hokage! I guarantee I'll complete all of these today!"
Just then, another team walked in. "Hinata? Sasuke? And Naruto?" It was Ino, greeting them cheerfully.
"Ino," Hinata smiled sincerely, "did you also come to receive a mission?"
Naruto saw the members of Team 10—the legendary Ino-Shika-Cho trio. He greeted his old friends. "Shikamaru! Choji!"
"Naruto," Choji said, surprised, "why are you carrying so many mission scrolls?"
"These are all the tasks we have to complete today!" Naruto said smugly. "I'm going to complete one hundred tasks in seven days!"
The three members of Team 10 were utterly dumbfounded. "It's one thing to be this competitive in the academy," Ino complained, "but do you have to be like this after becoming a genin?! Is this really necessary, Naruto?"
At that moment, Asuma Sarutobi also walked in, smoking a cigarette. He and his father were still at odds, so he didn't offer a friendly look as he approached. His eyes, however, lit up when he saw Naruto. "Naruto, you're still working so hard."
"Asuma-sensei! You're here too!"
Asuma exhaled a smoke ring and smiled. "I'm the Jonin leading Team 10 now, so of course I'm here." He glanced at Kakashi. "A lazy guy like you seems completely mismatched to lead such a hardworking team."
Kakashi just smiled. "I'm just helping them take on more missions. How many they complete is up to them. Besides, they don't need my help, so I'm happy to have some free time."
"You're the same as ever," Asuma shook his head. He walked up to the Hokage. "Team 10 is here to receive a mission."
Hiruzen flipped through the documents and coughed. "Team 7 has taken most of today's missions. There's one task left: helping to babysit. I'll leave it to you."
Asuma stood there, speechless.
"Babysitting?" Shikamaru muttered. "Just hearing that sounds like a nightmare."
"Naruto, it's all your fault!" Ino retorted angrily. "Why did you steal all the missions?!"
"Who told you to be late!" Naruto chuckled. "Asuma-sensei, I'm sorry. Next time, please come earlier!" He turned to his team. "Let's go, Hinata!"
"...Okay, Naruto-kun."
"Goodbye, Ino."
"Hmph, Hinata, you seem to be having a lot of fun," Ino grumbled as Hinata blushed and hurried away. Sasuke just closed his eyes, put his hands in his pockets, and left. Kakashi shrugged and waved goodbye to Asuma, leaving Team 10 to stare after the whirlwind that was Team 7.
From that day on, Naruto began a frenzy of missions. Weeding, catching insects, tilling land, watering plants. Finding cats, catching dogs, herding cattle, tending sheep. Cleaning up trash, conducting investigations... he accepted and completed any task available. In just six days, he had already completed nearly eighty missions. On the last day, with twenty tasks still to go, he forced Kakashi to take on all the remaining D-rank missions, which even included a C-rank escort mission through bandit-infested territory.
Driven by Naruto's madness, Hinata and Sasuke were forced to work desperately. Byakugan, Sharingan, taijutsu, ninjutsu—they never stopped. On one hand, they gained a tremendous amount of experience. On the other, they were nearing their breaking point. Neither of them had undergone the inhuman trials Naruto had, and they lacked his resilient physique. Other teams suffered as well. Team 8 and Team 10 eventually had no missions left to take and could only wait helplessly.
Finally, late on the seventh night, Naruto's team completed their final task. Kakashi was fine, having mostly just run errands and read his book. Hinata and Sasuke were both exhausted. Naruto, however, remained energetic, even more excited than before.
[Congratulations, host, for successfully completing one hundred tasks within seven days. You have received a random system reward. Would you like to claim it now?]
Naruto's heart pounded. Last time, he had received a powerful Wind Release ninjutsu. He immediately accepted.
[Congratulations, host, on completing the mission and receiving a random reward: Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!]
Another Wind Release ninjutsu! Though it was a fairly basic technique, its power was directly related to the user's chakra. For an ordinary ninja, it might create a strong wind. But for a ninja with massive reserves like Naruto, the power and scale of the resulting gale would be astonishing. He couldn't hide his happy smile.
"Naruto-kun, what are you laughing at?" Hinata asked curiously.
Naruto glanced at her pale, exhausted face and felt a pang of guilt. He scratched his head and chuckled. "Ah, nothing! It's just that our Team 7 actually completed a hundred tasks in seven days! We're amazing!"
Sasuke was panting too heavily to even utter a sarcastic remark. Kakashi, meanwhile, remained leisurely, lazily turning the pages of his book.
"Kakashi-sensei! Don't you have anything to say?!" Naruto demanded.
Kakashi looked up. "Hmm? Are you talking about the hundred tasks? They are indeed impressive. After all, it's Team 7, led by Kakashi Hatake."
"You barely did anything!" Naruto pouted.
"Well, that's how it is when you're leading a Jonin team. You're the newbies being trained, after all."
"Nobody would believe that!"
Kakashi smiled slightly. "Alright, let's end today's mission here. You've gone crazy enough for seven days, Naruto. Starting tomorrow, you can't mess around anymore."
*You think I want to be this crazy?!* Naruto thought. With the system's task complete, he had no desire to chase after cats and dogs ever again. "Ah, don't worry, Kakashi-sensei! I'll do whatever you say tomorrow!"
"That's more like it," Kakashi said, closing his book and waving lazily as he left.
