Tessa ignored all the calls and messages from her mother but didn't miss her meeting with Sebastian the next evening.
She would be his companion for some charity event. He had offered to pick her up but she declined, opting to drive there herself.
At the door, she handed in her invitation and walked in. She scanned the hall, finding him at the center of the conversation and walked over.
Surprise flashed through his eyes when he saw her and she fought the urge to sneer loudly. This was an invite only event and he wasn't waiting for her outside.
She called him when she was almost here and then again when she arrived. He didn't answer the second call.
If she didn't have her own invitation, she would have been left stranded until he decided to 'check his phone'.
Her mother must be deluded to think he would make a good partner. But then again, she probably didn't care as long as it was a man.
He got over the surprise quickly and his lips spread in a smile.
