ARIELLE
The Luna Gala was one of the most important events in the young wolves' lives. Each year, the sons and daughters of high-ranked wolves gathered together in a large banquet hall to meet and greet, mingle among each other, and, if they were lucky, to find their fated mate.
In the past, the notion of finding one's fated mate was considered romantic. It was a blessing from the Moon Goddess – something to cherish and be grateful for.
These days, however, staying loyal to fate seemed like a luxury only for the unfortunate ones.
Whether we liked it or not, mingling with the ones at the top meant playing the games no one could win. We had to follow the rules of those in power only to give them even more power over us.
And ironically enough, fate, the only thing we seemingly had no control over, was the glimpse of freedom we had to reject if we wanted to stay in that game.
