Chapter 24 - Bandits

A connection that transcended life and death!

Grunting on the ground, wreathed in fire and pain, from inside out, both of them began to metamorphose

Isabelle, kneeling in pain, screamed in agony as her eyes began to bleed, slowly turning blood red

"Arghhh!" She yelled, her body exuding an aura much stronger than the current Damien

"Young master, it hurts…."

"My head feels like it's going to explode!"

As she clamped her head in agony, much to her surprise, accompanied by the pain, two sharp objects began to grow from her forehead

"Arghhh!"

"Something…is… coming… outtt….!""

With this shout, her mind suddenly went blank

*Boom!*

With her inner mind exploding, she instantly passed out from the pain, her body continuing to change, regardless of whether she was awake.

As she lay unconscious, two black horns grew from her head.

The horns, obsidian black and seemingly capable of absorbing all light around them.

They coiled like spires representing a pillar to heaven, majestic and eerie at the same time, making them gaze worthy regardless of the situation.

Her eyes, red like blood and shining like a ruby, as if to highlight the fact that she was no longer human

On the edges of her eyelid, a strange black mark appeared, which ran down the middle of her cheek.

And Damien, under his newly established connection with Isabelle, could clearly see and feel all her changes without actually looking at her

Because of this, he intuitively understood why he, too, was also burning.

"So.. that's it…"

"It turns out that Isabelle is awakening her ability, and as the person who gave her the contract gem, her ability is being copied and grafted onto me"

"ugh..!"

Feeling his soul burning, Damien understood what ability she had awakened.

"Should I say as expected of a half-demon, in this world where awakening an ability is rare, she was able to awaken two!"

"Fire and gravity, two top-tier abilities no matter where they're placed"

"Especially gravity, which I don't think I ever heard of gravity magic in the original novel"

Muttering to himself, because he was not a half-demon, Damien did not experience any outward changes

However, if one could examine his soul, they would find, in its centre laid a wheel which was divided into three parts.

White representing his contract gem ability, taking up about fifty percent of the wheel, and green and red portions, each taking about twenty-five percent, representing gravity and fire, respectively.

Feeling this newfound strength, a smile couldn't help but appear on his face.

Taking a look at Isabelle, who was currently passed out on the ground, Damien silently wished her luck

"Sleep well, Isabelle, because when you wake up, I'm about to train you like never before"

Happy with his new abilities and newfound strong partner, he then folded his arms, trying to get some sleep

Just now, even if he didn't pass out, he had already endured so much today, his twelve-year-old body was nearing its limits

So with that, he gently closed sat on his chair and closed his eyes.

….......…

Two days later,

Time soon passed, and in the blink of an eye, two days had passed since Damien started his journey.

And two days had passed since Isabelle had awakened.

However, within those two days, a lot had happened since then.

Right now, they were already approaching the town of Silverwood, and with only a few hours left on the road, Damien had been trying nonstop to teach Isabelle to control her abilities

"Isabelle, try again, we're almost there"

"focus on the mana in your body, try imagining it being sucked inward to your heart, and putting a lock on top of it"

"Once you can do this, you should be able to enter the Silverwood without any issues"

Playing with a ball of fire in one hand and floating a pebble in the other.

Damien silently practised his new abilities while he guided Isabelle in front of him.

However, looking at her frowning as she meditated, Damien wondered if it was that he sucked at teaching, or she was just untalented in this aspect.

*Well, it might also be that I'm being too hasty; in the original novel, this method was created by a half-demon ten years later to hide their demon characteristics*

*But if that's the case, why can't Isabelle do it? Could it be that I'm forgetting something?*

Thinking of this, Damien felt at a loss as he knew he couldn't enter the town without hiding her horns and red eyes.

If he couldn't, then that was the same as asking to be besieged by the whole town and potentially the empire.

*But then again, speaking of demons, back when she just woke up, this maid of mine truly surprised me*

*Not only was she not scared or surprised like I thought she would be, but after hearing it, I could swear I saw some joy in her eyes*

*Being a half blood of the legendary demon race, Isabelle, knowing this would undoubtedly improve her strength and solve her lack of talent issue, must have been extremely happy*

*However, if she doesn't learn how to conceal her strength, then her joy would inevitably be short-lived*

Sighing inwardly, Damien continued to watch Isabelle as she practised

"Young master! I think it's working!"

"I think I can feel my mana flowing inwardly!"

Lost in thought, Isabelle, with a happy tone, suddenly spoke up, interrupting him.

However, before he could even take a minute to understand what was going on, a frown suddenly appeared on his face.

With his mana sense, he suddenly felt twenty-malice-filled presences, rapidly approaching the carriage

Not only that, but before he could analyse more, the carriage itself was stopped.

*Bang!* *Bang!*

"Hey, who is in this carriage! Get down and hand all of your money!"

Banging on the door side of the carriage, a raspy voice came into his ears.

*Bandits?* Damien thought, looking at the cross-legged Isabelle, and the bandits outside, an idea suddenly came into his mind

*Hopefully this works!*
