Chapter 97 - Second Soul Ring—The Chrysanthemum Douluo Shatters

At this moment, the Flame Spider had undergone a dramatic transformation.

Its eight mystical legs now extended long, sharp spikes, and the golden flames swirling around its body made it appear even more imposing and grand, its aura surging to a new level.

Luo Yu's shock quickly turned into delight. Who would have thought that absorbing external energy could trigger an evolution in his soul skill?

Facing the brutal attack hurtling through the air, Luo Yu waved his hand, summoning the massive Flame Celestial Spider. It surged forward with a presence as vast as a smoke-filled sea, colliding head-on with the hulking Qingyan Dragon.

"Boom!"

The dragon was struck squarely by the golden spider, instantly engulfed in a sea of golden fire. Luo Yu didn't relax for a moment; his gaze sharpened as he pressed the advantage, spear in hand, charging into the flames.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!"

A series of metal-on-metal clashes rang out from within the golden inferno. Smoke and dust swirled violently, and flames billowed around them.

"Roar!!"

The dragon's frenzied roar echoed as the golden flames dispersed. Luo Yu and the Qingyan Dragon faced each other, some twenty meters apart.

Luo Yu panted heavily, his clothes torn, bearing minor injuries, looking a bit battered.

The dragon fared far worse. A chunk of its gray horn had been broken, scorch marks and bloody holes marred its body, scales flew in disarray, and half its tail spikes had snapped.

"Roar, roar!"

Pain coursing through its body pushed the dragon to the edge of madness—it wanted to devour the human before it.

Its bloodline surged, and pale blue flames drifted up from its massive frame, condensing atop its horn into a massive fireball entirely made of blue fire.

Luo Yu tightened his grip on his spear. Of course, he wouldn't allow the dragon to finish charging—it wasn't a fair duel, but a fight to the death. Bending his knees, he sprang upward, leaving a golden pillar of fire behind, aiming straight for the dragon's throat to prevent it from completing its attack.

The dragon's eyes gleamed cunningly. Its innate skill required no charging at all; the whole act was simply a trap, waiting to catch an attacking opponent off guard.

As Luo Yu approached, the dragon unleashed the scorching fireball at him.

Luo Yu's lips curled into a slight smile. Fearless, he braced, spear in hand, and met the fireball head-on.

"Roar!"

A glint of gold suddenly shot out from the blue flames, followed by a streak of bloody cold energy. The dragon's eyes widened in shock.

"Boom!"

Luo Yu's mighty spear pierced the dragon's head. The Qingyan Dragon instantly lost all sound and collapsed, its blue flames extinguished.

Before celebration could set in, a surge of energy shot along the spear, wild and aggressive. Worse, the two source powers, Zhu Zhao and You Ying, seemed to be temporarily unresponsive due to overuse recently.

Luo Yu's consciousness sank, forcing the source powers to purify the incoming energy. He couldn't let this impure energy enter his body—otherwise, his solid foundation could be completely destroyed.

Finally, Zhu Zhao and You Ying simultaneously extracted the dragon's energy, leaving only a small amount of refined energy. It was divided into three parts, entering the spear, his martial soul, and fusing into his soul power.

Luo Yu opened his eyes slowly, a sharp gleam shining through. "That was close… looks like I shouldn't use this method to kill soul beasts for now."

Staring at the golden-hued spear in his hand, he paused, then smacked his forehead. "As long as it doesn't pierce the body, it shouldn't absorb energy, right?"

Channeling soul power into the spear, its form shifted, occasionally transforming into a hammer or staff.

Meanwhile, from the Qingyan Dragon's lifeless body, black mist began to condense, and a dark-colored soul ring slowly formed.

Luo Yu grinned, releasing his martial soul and consciously drawing the black soul ring toward himself. As long as his body could withstand it, there was no problem. As for the dragon's resentment? He didn't care—it had been crushed with one strike.

Soon, a black second soul ring floated above his white soul ring. Observing carefully, Luo Yu saw energy leaking from the ring, gradually integrating into his martial soul.

As his martial soul grew stronger, the energy originally belonging to the soul ring seemed to undergo transformation, temporarily stored within the martial soul, ready to return when Luo Yu activated it.

Shaking his head, Luo Yu mused: no doubt, this soul ring would turn white again.

Yet, rather than weakening his soul skill, it seemed to continually enhance its power.

His left eye's Po Wang golden iris activated, scanning the dragon's remains. Luo Yu shook his head with a smile.

Not greedy enough—how could a ten-thousand-year soul beast produce soul bones so easily?

Looking around, Luo Yu noticed something odd.

The trees in the Star Dou Forest seemed unusual. Despite the flames from the battle scorching them black, the fire had not spread at all.

Impossible—could the trees be fire-resistant?

Normally, the Star Dou Continent had no fire prevention measures. On rainy or stormy days, lightning striking the ground would inevitably spread fire. If the forest burned continuously for months, it would be gone.

Luo Yu experimented, sending a streak of golden flame toward a fallen tree. It turned blackened and charred, yet didn't ignite.

"This is impossible!" Luo Yu muttered in astonishment.

As he glanced at the small flame flickering on his fingertip, he coughed strangely.

Luo Yu leapt and weaved through the forest on his return path. Suddenly, a thunderous ape-like roar echoed ahead, filled with rage and malice.

The crash of falling trees shook the ground, a continuous "boom, boom, boom" approaching, making the earth itself tremble.

"What the… what's going on? Didn't I take a detour? How did this thing get here?" Luo Yu's eyes narrowed in suspicion.

Though he didn't fully understand, it was clear the Titan Giant Ape had gone berserk for some reason. Running straight back wasn't an option—it would lead him straight into enemy territory.

Luo Yu quickly calculated, then unleashed his soul power, steering carefully to exit the Star Dou Forest by another route.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

No sooner had he gone a few minutes than several figures appeared where he had been.

A slender man ahead had a massive golden chrysanthemum floating behind him. Nine soul rings radiated intense light, enveloping three young figures darting through the forest.

"You three are asking for death! Not only do you get close to a Titan Giant Ape, you even want to go for a closer look?" the slender man scolded angrily.

Hu Liena looked aggrieved, shooting Yan a cold glance—it was all this guy's fault.

Yan retorted, "Elder Yue, the records said Titan Giant Apes rarely attack humans. I just wanted to see for myself. Didn't expect the book to be wrong."

Chrysanthemum Douluo's mind exploded in anger. Titan Giant Apes rarely attacked humans, but this was the exception—especially for Yue Guan.

Hu Liena added, "Elder Yue, you were right there—why didn't you stop us?"

"Heh."

Chrysanthemum Douluo sneered. He had thought his stealth was perfect, that the Titan Giant Ape would never notice him.

But he'd forgotten—trailing these three had left traces of his aura, and the ape discovered it.

Could he just watch them die?

In the end, he had to reveal himself, pulling them along while being chased, caught in a frantic pursuit.

"We can't go further in. We have to detour out. Once we leave the forest, we'll be safe!" Chrysanthemum Douluo said coldly.

Channeling soul power, he dragged the three with him, heading in the direction Luo Yu had gone.

Rows of trees were crushed beneath them. The Titan Giant Ape, massive as a mountain, moved swiftly, closing in on the four from the Soul Hall.

On its shoulder was a small figure—a beautiful girl with a long scorpion ponytail, eyes red as she urged it onward.

"Big sis, don't worry. Want to detour? That depends if I allow it," a tower-like voice bellowed.

End of fifth update.

The author also added a note asking readers' opinions on killing Tang San, though it's not yet part of the plot.
