Chapter 1 - Childhood

Kinkri Devi was born in Ghaton Village in Tehsil-Renuka and District -Sirmaur of Himachal Pardesh in 1925.Her father was farmer and was able to earn money to fulfill basic needs of his family.

Her father was belonging to dalit caste so there was no more opportunity available for them in society as compared to other castes.But her father was hardworking person.

As farming was primary profession family was connected with nature very much so their love was immense toward nature and their motherland.Due to harsh conditions of family Kinkri Devi had start working as servant during her childhood.

Due to this she did not got education but there were also absence of schools nearby her village due to which also she couldn't get opportunity to get education.

As passing life as a servant she had to face many difficulties as faced by many servants and stil had to face hardships.She was married to a boy Shamu Ram in her childhood.

Shamu Ram was also bonded labourer and his life was also full of hardships and after marriage their responsibilities as well as expenses also increases and yet both has to face hardships.

After few years Shamu Ram got Typhoid fever and his body couldn't bear this fever and he died and Kinkri Devi remained alone and has to work.

She started now new job as sweeeper and noticed massive quarrying in some parts of Himachal Pardesh 's hills,harming local environment and water supply which was generally ponds and rivers .
