Chapter 132 - Betrayal in the Hall of Bones

POV: Lucian 

Kaelen didn't waste time.

Guards flooded the cell before either of us could react—six of them, all armed with silver-edged weapons and faces carved from stone. They yanked me away from Lior despite my struggles, despite the hybrid power that surged beneath my skin begging to be released.

"Don't." Lior's voice cut through my rage. "Don't fight them. Not yet."

His eyes met mine, and through the bond I felt his calculation. His terrible, cold assessment that fighting now would only get us killed faster. That we needed to see what Kaelen planned, what cards he held, before we showed our hand.

So I didn't fight. Didn't let the gold and red light explode from my chest the way it wanted to. Just let them chain my wrists with silver that burned, let them march us through Thornhaven's halls like prisoners.

Which, I supposed, we were.
