Chapter 113 - THE WOLF'S DEN

LUCIAN POV

They kept us in the war room for hours.

Not questioning anymore—interrogating. Elder after elder demanding answers I didn't have, explanations for a bond I barely understood, proof of loyalty I couldn't give because the mark on Lior's wrist said everything about where my heart had chosen to land.

"How do we know you won't betray us?" One elder leaned forward, voice sharp. "When the vampires attack again—when they breach our walls—how do we know you won't side with him over us?"

"I wouldn't—"

"You already did!" Another elder slammed his hand on the table. "During the battle. You protected him instead of killing him. That's already betrayal."

Heat flared in my chest—not anger exactly, but something deeper. Primal. The Lycan blood in my veins responding to threat with instinctive fury.

"I protected my mate." The word came out as a snarl. "Something you'd all understand if you'd ever felt a true bond instead of whatever political arrangements you call partnerships."
