Chapter 56 - The Broken Alpha

I followed the bond.

While search parties combed the ruins and surrounding forest, I let the mate bond guide me. That invisible rope tied around my ribs, pulling south. Away from the pack house. Deeper into territory I'd once walked as Luna.

The Crescent Moon territory was a graveyard now. Where grand oak trees had once formed natural archways over well-maintained paths, charred trunks stood like blackened sentinels. The fire had consumed everything in its path, leaving behind a landscape of ash and bone. Wildflowers that had once carpeted the clearings were reduced to gray powder that rose in small clouds with each step. The air itself tasted of destruction: bitter carbon, the acrid sting of melted plastics and metals, the sickly sweet rot of burned flesh still lingering days after the blaze.
