As the day went by however the heat in my body started getting higher and higher with seasons of chilling coldness in between. As the clock tallied slowly approaching the middle of the day so did my discomfort grow. I was beginning to wonder what was wrong with me when the Plant study teacher walked through the door. MS Landora Mila Valaku of the Valaku tribe of the east. She was dressed in a green long dress as if to make a testament on her prowess in plant knowledge. she was cheerful and beautiful with bulky sleeping afro hair fanning her small oval face. her pointy nose and full lips received quite a reaction from the school.
"Hello boys and girls, I'm madam Landora Mila Valaku, for those who we haven't met yet," I had missed a week of school during my transfer so I guessed she was talking to the newcomers. "Since we already did an introduction into advanced plant ology I'd like you to follow me to the school gardens for an outdoor class." She smiled brightly and all the students were quite happy to know that they'd not be sitting in class for another hour. I could have been happy to if it was on another day, but i was feeling out of it. It felt like I was fading.
The school gardens were huge and they were situated at the back of the school and the spread for a few mile. After all different plants required different ecosystems and some couldn't grow if planted beside certain plants. It was a duty of plant specialists to create a suitable ecosystem. If they only thrived in an arid place then they had to be planted on different soil and be kept in vineyard houses that had the same qualities as the desert.
Ms. Landora glided with her ground touching dress through the garden making stops to teach them about a plant its species and its pros and cons.
the moment we stepped into the garden, the smell of all types of flowers and plants hit me like a track and I swayed on my feet. tale was walking in front of me and she didn't notice me swaying on my feet. She might be from the central planes but she loved the science behind plants. she always spoke about creating a machine that measured the quality of plants so she could maximize the most important ones. I blinked my eyes and stabilized myself just as she turned around to tell me something. I couldn't hear what she was saying over my now pounding head but I pretended to understand by reading her lips.
"Why do you look so pale?" She asked her hand reaching out to feel my forehead but I stopped her with a smile. I didn't want to worry her twice, I could even imagine Mr. Fuwuka standing somewhere and sneering at my mere weakness and I shuddered.
"The smell of the plants is overwhelming me" I assured her before ushering her to keep walking.
"You are from the highlands of the east, how come you are getting irritated by plants?" she playfully mocked me before continuing on her walk.
"This the shy flower also know as feleeya," Ms. Landora said said her hair stands flapping away in the sand as she stitched her hand to touch a flower head in its yellow pod. she looked outwardly and delicate doing that mere act and the everyone swooned, enchanted in her charm.
"It is called shy flower because not many get to see it bloom. It stays its pod even after maturity and only comes out one night before it dies. It however is a very crucial ingredient for those planning to become healers. It is an ingredient used to make traditional anesthesia, it is rare and mysterious just as it is important. If mixed with the Oraliyaa leaves of the Arco tree however it can make a perfume for those who want to go into innovation to create strong perfumes like the one I'm wearing." She giggled before continuing to another flower and orchard and everyone gathered around to get a clear view.
The flower was a deep purple with small petals but its scent overpowered that of the plants around it. It was deviously beautiful.
"This is the devils breath, also known as eelhagia, just like its name, its a very devious flower, it is beautiful but is one of the most poisonous flowers, it only grown in very cold places as you can see the environment in this vineyard house. Just one flower of the devils breath can be used to make poison that can bring down a horse," everyone move back instinctively from the devious plant. the reaction made Ms. Landora laugh her voice like magical bells.
"there is no need for that, it only becomes poisonous once its severed from its stem. you may wonder then what is the use of such a plant?" she asked and everyone nodded wondering the same. "it is very critical ingredient when making medicine of almost all drugs. it requires meticulous care and only the best of the best know how to turn it into medicine and not poison. mistakes are not allowed" she said the last statement with all seriousness and I could understand why after hearing her explain its qualities. its smell alone was making me feel more lightheaded.
I tried to hang in there but when a wave of wind circulated again making its dominant smell hit me again my vision turned blurry and I fell backwards feeling like my body was made of jelly. my body however didn't hit the ground as everyone gasped wondering if I had already been poisoned. A pair of hand s cough me and I could only look at amber between masks. Sagiri! I couldn't read the expression behind his eyes but his eyes were narrowed.
"Lua!" I could read tales lips but I couldn't tell what hear at all. her shocked expression and panic.
"Take her to the healers house" Ms. Landora said calmly. Sagiri lifted me into his arms leaving everyone speechless again and it was as if he was gliding on wheels with how disoriented. his eyes seemed like two suns.
"Weakling!" is all he said by reading his lips. I must have passed out because when I came to I was lying on the healer bed and a liquid was attached to my arms. I moved my eyes slightly and I could hear Sagiri talking to the nurse.
"What is wrong with her?" he asked.
"She seemed to have caught a rain fever" the nurse blushed staring between me and Sagiri her delusions going crazy.
"You are awake" she said when she saw my eyes open.
"I thought it rains a lot in the highlands, how are you sick with rain fever?" Sagiri asked in an accusatory tone. It was as if he was accusing me or something.
"My parents were late to pick me that day and I was outside in all that rain that day" I said suddenly feeling sad remembering that day.
"Incompetent!" Sagiri said referring to my parents and I had to fight the urge to yell at him. he had carried me twice to the nurse in under three days.
"Thank you. it wont happen again" I said to him felling tired again. I didn't know I had caught the rain fever or I could have stayed home. He grunted at the last statement as if I was lying and I was going to fall sick at any time again.
"Weak" he said moving a step back from the bed as if my weakness was contagious.
"I already called home, your father is on his way" the nurse said disappearing out the door leaving me with Sagiri.
"Your eyes are like two suns." The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them. I probably survived because I was under the influence of drugs. The statement seemed to take him back for a moment before he huffed and exited after the nurse house.
