Leo lay on his bed, the soft mattress a world away from the lumpy futon he used to call his own. He stared at the ceiling, but he wasn't seeing it. In his mind, he was replaying the day's events over and over. The fight, the Headmaster's office, and the system notifications that were his impossible secret.
He had a goal now. Find the vampire princess, Seraphina Midnight, and make physical contact. It was the key to unlocking his true power. But how was he, a nobody from the human world, supposed to approach a royal? He'd probably be incinerated by her guards before he got within ten feet. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. This was going to be harder than he thought.
Just as he was about to lose himself in a spiral of worried planning, a soft, hesitant knock echoed from his door.
Leo shot up, his heart instantly pounding. His first thought was Kaelen. Had he sent his cronies to finish the job? He silently slid off the bed, his body tensing for a fight. The two skills he had weren't much, but they were better than nothing. He crept to the door, peering through the small peephole.
His breath caught in his throat.
It wasn't Kaelen. It was her.
Standing in the hallway, looking just as ethereal and impossibly beautiful as she had in the courtyard, was Seraphina Midnight. Her long, silver-white hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her violet eyes, which seemed to glow with a soft light of their own, were filled with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. She was alone.
Leo's mind went blank. The one person he needed to find, the key to his evolution, was standing right outside his door. He took a shaky breath and opened it.
"Can I help you?" he asked, his voice coming out a little hoarse.
Seraphina's gaze swept over him, her expression unreadable. "You are Leo Vance," she stated. It wasn't a question. Her voice was like soft bells, melodic and clear. "The human who fought Kaelen."
"That's me," Leo said, leaning against the doorframe, trying to look far more casual than he felt. "I'm guessing you're not here to finish the job."
A faint, ghost of a smile touched her lips. "No. I am here because I do not understand. Kaelen is arrogant and cruel, but he is a high-ranking noble of the Dracul clan. For a human to not only survive his attack but to manifest a Blood Shield… it is impossible."
"I'm full of surprises," Leo said with a shrug.
"So it would seem," she replied, taking a small step closer. Her intense violet eyes seemed to be searching for something deep inside him. "When you used that power, I felt… a resonance. A pull. A familiarity I cannot explain. I must know what you are."
Before Leo could react, she reached out, her movements fluid and graceful. Her slender, pale fingers gently touched his chest, right over his heart where Kaelen's claws had pierced him.
The moment her skin made contact with his, a profound connection sparked between them. It wasn't a physical shock, but a deep, spiritual hum that resonated in his very soul. For Seraphina, it was a jolt of recognition, a feeling of finding a piece of herself she never knew was missing. She gasped and stumbled back, her eyes wide with shock and confusion.
In Leo's mind, a series of clean, concise notifications appeared.
[Physical Contact with Soulmate Achieved!] [Verifying Soul Bond... Success!] [All conditions met. Vampire Bloodline is ready for apotheosis.] [Evolution Process is now available.] [Begin Evolution to achieve 100% Bloodline Purity? Y/N]
There was no sudden surge of power, no immediate unlocking of skills. There was only a promise—an offer of transformation.
"What… what was that?" Seraphina whispered, clutching her hand to her chest. She looked at him now not just with curiosity, but with a dawning sense of awe. "I felt… the origin. The source of our entire race. What are you?"
"Something new," Leo said, his voice low and steady. He could feel the potential for evolution buzzing inside him, a quiet but insistent call to power. "I think you should go. Now."
Seraphina, sensing the immense change that was about to occur, simply nodded. She gave him one last, long, searching look before turning and vanishing down the corridor with supernatural speed.
Leo shut the door and locked it. He leaned against it, his body trembling with anticipation. He didn't hesitate. Focusing his mind on the glowing notification, he chose 'Yes'.
[Beginning Evolution Process... Standby.]
The world dissolved into crimson light.
It wasn't painful. It was transcendent. He felt his entire being, from his DNA to his soul, being unwritten and then rewritten. The 1% purity felt like a single drop of ink in a glass of water. Now, that water was being forcibly transmuted into the purest, most potent vintage of power imaginable. He felt his human limitations burning away, not just replaced, but annihilated from his very concept of being. His heart beat with a new, stronger rhythm, each pump a decree of his newfound authority over life and death.
The process felt like it lasted an eternity and a second all at once. As the crimson light began to merge with his very soul, a torrent of information flooded his mind, a library of forbidden knowledge and godlike power being downloaded directly into his existence.

When the light faded, Leo was left standing in the middle of his room, completely and irrevocably changed.
He felt it. Not just control, but absolute, conceptual dominion. The power inside him wasn't a pool; it was an endless ocean. He slowly walked to the mirror in the wardrobe and looked at his reflection.
He looked the same, but his eyes were now a deep, glowing crimson, and the air around him seemed to bend and warp slightly, unable to properly contain his presence.
He called up the system, and the status screen was almost unrecognizable.
