The bus rattled to a stop on a lonely road. I stepped out with my cousin, my brother, and a handful of others. The air felt heavy, as though something unseen watched us. We thought we had arrived but the truth was, our journey had only begun.
A man led us into a building. The door slammed shut. Chains rattled. We were locked in. The realization hit hard: we had been kidnapped.
Panic set in. My cousin searched the ceiling. My brother rattled the barred window. My own eyes darted around for anything a crack, a weakness, a chance. Then the door creaked open. A shadow filled the doorway.
The man muttered something. He didn't see it coming one of us slipped out. Instinct took over. I followed, my heart pounding like a drum. The night swallowed us whole. We had escaped.
But the next day, I couldn't stay away. Something pulled me back. I wandered past a school where children lined up for assembly, their voices rising in song. Normal life continued, unaware of the nightmare nearby.
"Where's that building ?" I asked a student. But before he could answer, I felt it eyes burning into me. I turned. A massive truck idled across the road. The leader. He had spotted me.
The chase was instant. His engine roared. My bike skidded on gravel. We cut through the streets until fate stopped us both at a restaurant. He climbed down, towering, dangerous. I clenched my fists. No running now.
The fight was raw. Each blow rattled my bones. But rage fueled me. For my brother. For my cousin. For everyone still trapped. At last, I struck the final hit. He collapsed. Silence spread like a wave. I had killed him.
I turned toward the building. My steps were heavy but steady. On the way, I passed a group of my female classmates. Music played a party.
"Hey, look at Favour!" they shouted, waving.
Heat rose to my cheeks. I forced a smile, lifted a hand in greeting, but didn't stop. My path lay ahead.
The building loomed in the distance. My brother and cousin were still inside. My friends too. I kept walking… but before I reached the door, the world faded.
Unfinished.
