Chapter 1 - what did I do to end up like this

I took a glance at my hands before turing on the tap only to find my hands drenched in blood.

I was feeling light headed, not knowing what was happening to me, so I came over to my sink so I can wash my face and feel refreshed, but now i cant even think straight anymore.

I held the edge of my sink tightly as I regain my balance but it was of no use. I quickly turned on the sink to wash the blood off my hands, I kept rubbing and rubbing and rubbing but the blood wouldn't come off.

"Please... Please... I don't want to do this anymore...Please... I want my family back... I..."I cried and cried repeating the same exact words and rubbing my hands but the blood won't come off.

The stench of blood finally got to me and I couldn't tolerate it anymore. My breathing became unstable and I started coughing a lot which finally made me threw up, ending my suffering for now. My throat had a burning sensation which usually happens to me when I throw up, and the way it feels after would have made me trew up once more if I wasn't accustomed to it, I wiped my mouth and got back to rubbing my hands to get the blood off them.

I looked up, there was a broken mirror right above to sink, in the mirror I saw a boy in his late teens, rough unkept long black hairs with red ends, dark brown eyes which haven't slept for days, wearing dark baggy t-shirt with full sleeves, on his right hand was a watch not capable of showing time anymore.

As tears ran down my face i wondered what did I do to end up like this

2 years ago... that's when it all started, I still remembered that day...

That day my younger sister was reciting a poetry to me, it was her desperate attempt to memorize it before the test happening the very next day, "You my dear brother get the privilege to help your sweet little sister which is ME! To prepare for the test" she said with her hands on her hips and beaming with joy being proud of what she said.

While reciting she would sometimes mess up the end part of the poem and sometimes she would mess up the starting bit. Her repeating "A... aa..." when she couldn't remember the next lines were comical and adorable both at the same time.

At one point she even started making me worry about her test. While her 30 mins snacks break I went and talked to mom, she said she asked the teacher about the sudden test to which the teacher replied l, "Oh it was just a throw away comment to make students study, it's not a real test." I felt relief and then questioned why was I so stressed about an exam which I'm not even gonna give.

I was about to return when my mom's phone rang, Mom was busy listening to her old era songs in the kitchen unaware of the phone call. I quickly picked up the phone and went in kitchen to hand over the phone.

"WHAT!!!?" My mom replied calmly as I interrupted her cooking / singing session with a phone in my hand. "It's dad's call." I said.

It wasn't unusual for dad to call around that time, it was mostly for notifying if he is going to join us for dinner or not, assuming it was the same as any other day my mom picked up the phone and got straight to the point. "What is it gonna be this time?" Her tone was a bit harsh but there was a hint of worry in those words as well, I wasn't able to hear dad's reply but his replied left my mom horrified.

She rushed towards the living room, my little sister was siting on the sofa treating herself to a orange juice while watching her favorite show, as mom entered the living room she snatched the remote off my sister's hand and changed the channel to news channel. My sister about to complain but mom's expression was enough to run chill down her spine.

Thinking that it was just an overreaction on mom's part I took a glance at the news.

○"BREAKING NEWS": 1.062 billion people dead in an unknown disaster wiping out a whole continent. According to sources, it was a Huge pillar like structure that fell down from sky that was the cause of it all. The area near the crater has yet to be searched. WAIT!!! THERE IS ANO-.... ○

The TV lost signal, still unable to process the situation my mom tried to keep everything under control, "go to you room and don't come out until I say so." I took my sister's hand and help, while leaving I saw my mom just sit on the sofa holding her head with her hand trying her best to stay calm for me and my sister but it was visible that the stress got the best of her.

I returned to my room with my sister. We sat there for a few minutes in complete silence, she was too young to understand the situation but she too knew something wrong happened. After a while I decided to act like a big brother and change the atmosphere making sure my sister isn't worrying about anything, "Ruby! Why don't you try reciting the poem to me." I tried to get her mind off the current situation to which she replied with watery eyes, "brother I'm scar-"

I woke up in a long off white gown with a tint of blue mixed in it, the metal sheet used for an ceiling was something I've never seen since none of our room had it, I moved my head to the left, there was another person in the same type of clothes as me, I moved my head to the right and it was a another with a same fashion sense. I struggled yet tried to sit up straight

I noticed the TV in the middle of the right wall, it had a cracked screen and frozen display stuck on 1 particular frame which had these words written on the screen

"Pillers from heaven has fallen down"
