Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 15

Dr. Steve Harris had been watching Tabby's nervousness that evening and understood it completely. He didn't like the fact that his new wife Nicole was clinging so anxiously to

her pet Ted. Yes, his father was of course a wealthy man, a prominent figure, in other words, a great match for his daughter... but... he somehow felt that Tabby's

happiness should take a completely different direction. And her affection for the sick boy David was taking away all his peace. He had seen many such cases in his years of medical practice in oncology, and there was really nothing to remember. After an inevitable and undignified end, loved ones were always left with a deep and aching hole in their hearts and bitter tears in their eyes. And he wanted to spare his daughter that. A completely unsolvable situation.

With an unpleasant feeling in his heart, he watched Tabby head out onto the terrace with a glass in her hand, apparently with the intention of freeing herself from the spider webs that his wife Nicole had prepared for her. When she did not appear after a quarter of an hour, he put the champagne on the table and followed her. The terrace was dark, but he still saw two slender figures quickly disappearing into the dense vegetation of their garden. He smiled and nodded. He didn't even have to guess twice. He knew that Tabby had run away again, and with whom, he knew it perfectly well. Despite everything and given his great sympathy for David, the edge of his resentment had been slightly dulled. He shrugged and said to himself in a whisper.

"I know, my little girl, it's like I saw myself in my youth, they talked me out of your mother too. But I was too weak to resist. I just want you to be happy, nothing more… I may not be making a mistake, but I won't forbid you…"

With these words he returned to the hall. Nicole greeted him and immediately started her squeaky voice.

"That's unheard of, where is she again? That girl really does whatever she wants, Ted is waiting for her all the time, wants to invite her on a trip to the mountains. This really doesn't suit, dear. How will I look? Well? So tell me, how?" The last words almost screamed. Steve took a breath and answered, looking at Ted, who, considerably strengthened by alcohol and devoted to his friend's daughter, did not look like he was dying of longing for Tabby.

"My dear, you'll look exactly the same as you do now and don't blow that bubble unnecessarily, it really only depends on my daughter what she decides. She got sick and went to bed. That's all, you'll have to do without her. And your sweet Ted is already doing it responsibly..." Steve pointed out sarcastically, walked towards the bar and didn't feel bad at all about this small and innocent lie. He was surprised at himself. Since his daughter's arrival, he had looked at many things completely differently and wondered how he managed to answer Nicole like that. But he should have done it a long time ago...

The moon had just emerged from the clouds, and the twigs cracking under Tabby and David's feet were just one of the many typical sounds that accompanied this pleasantly warm night. When they thought they were far enough away, they slowed their running and finally stopped at the edge of the forest. David was breathing deeply, which caused a worried frown on Tabby's forehead.

"Are you okay? We shouldn't have been in such a hurry, no one would have noticed my absence anyway..." Tabby breathed out with a smile and gently stroked David's cheek.

He closed his eyes for a moment after her touch, and then hugged her to him. She could still feel the wild beat of his heart, which was racing after the strenuous run for him.

"I'm fine...I need to calm down a bit, if your dad, aka my attending physician, saw me out of breath like this, he certainly wouldn't be thrilled...and even more so when I was running with his daughter like this..." David grinned. But he tried with all his might not to notice the wild moments before his eyes and the sharp stabbing pain behind his left eye. A few drops of sweat broke out on his forehead and only thanks to the fact that he was hugging Tabby tightly, he kept his balance...

He bitterly realized that he would have to hurry up the time of his departure to the Himalayas and was a little angry with himself for giving in to his desire and coming to get Tabby despite his principles. He had to.

Because the idea of the other person reaching for her..."

"David?..." He started and noticed that she was watching him for a long time with those amazing forget-me-not eyes of hers, in which a questioning light was displayed.

"Hm?.." he muttered and then despite everything he smiled.

"Let's go, I've prepared some great sandwiches at home and a very tasty tea, all the way from Nepal. So, how about some?" She nodded eagerly and her lips parted seductively. She was obviously expecting him to kiss her, but he wanted to enjoy this much later. He was worried that she wouldn't notice his sudden nausea, which he was barely hiding... He tried not to notice her disappointed look, so he grabbed her tightly around the waist and kissed her hair lightly...

"Come on, let's go... forget-me-not..." he grinned. She looked at him sharply, then slapped him lightly on the shoulder and hissed, trying to sound angry, but she wasn't very successful.

"Hey, don't call me that, you know I can't stand it, and you know why, Ted's slimy face immediately flashes before my eyes...!" He pulled her closer and whispered in her ear. "You're so cute when you get angry like that... I love it... and that's why I'm going to call you that more often..."

"Just try it and you'll see!" she shouted at him. He smiled at her and answered.

"I'll see what? Actually, I know...your face, a little cutely distorted with anger and the sparkles in the blue sky of your eyes..." He couldn't stand it any longer, he suddenly felt good, the pain miraculously disappeared, and he gently touched her raspberry lips with his. He suddenly felt drunk...he held her even tighter and entered her mouth deeply. She didn't protest at all and melted in his arms, like the first snow that covers the autumn landscape in autumn. Then he stopped for a moment, took her chin in two fingers and whispered.

"Sorry, maybe I'm in too much of a hurry...but it was stronger than me again, if you want, we'll go home and..." She shook her head mischievously and placed her index finger on his lips.

"Shh...don't say anything more, you're in no hurry at all, and we'll have that sandwich and tea at home, hm?...and then...we still have the whole night ahead of us..." And she hugged him tightly again.

When he laid her down a little later in the soft grass among the fragrant bushes, the moon hid in the clouds, as if wanting to preserve the intimacy of this moment, the only witnesses to which were then the pleasantly cool breeze and the chirping of nocturnal insects echoing in the night silence.
