Chapter 6 - ANNE

I doubt she'll come back. She's definitely going to meet some guy and forget about my cocktail. I just watched people dance and listened to music since I had nothing else to do. But then she did come back with my drink.

"Here you go."

"Thank you." I took it from her and noticed she was still standing there, so I raised an eyebrow in question.

"Um... I met this guy at the bar. I promised him a drink after I got back to you."

"Oh, that's fine."

"Are you sure you're okay staying alone?"

"definitely "

"I'm truly sorry, I'll come back as soon as I can "

And then she disappeared, she'll likely return in about an hour. I looked around more and noticed James participating in the beer pong game he was engaged in. He was really competitive, much like his brother, which was one of the few traits they shared. Damn. Annabel, you need to forget him for the night. I grabbed a glass of beer from one of the passing waiters and took a drink. I've heard several stories warning against accepting opened drinks at parties like this since many are spiked, but at the moment, I didn't care. I just needed to escape from my thoughts.

"Is it okay if I sit here?" I noticed a slender, not overly tall figure in front of me, looking shy and uneasy.

"sure "

" Are you here alone?"

"Nah, I came with my friends, and they are having fun," I gestured and took another sip.

"Mine invited me here, but I can't seem to find him, and he hasn't picked up any of my calls since."

"You shouldn't have come if he didn't answer your call."

"He basically threatened me to come here." My eyes lit up.

"You're joking, right?

" Well, he threatened to mess with my belongings whenever I left, and I prefer my space to be orderly."

"You could do something similar to him, you know," I chuckled.

"Honestly, there's no point in disturbing an already chaotic place, and he wouldn't mind," he looked horrified at the thought of his friend's untidy room, and the expression on his face made me laugh even more.

"I'm not that funny, am I?" he asked, looking puzzled.

"Nah, you just have some funny facial expressions," I replied with a smile.

"Are you a freshman as well?" I inquired.

"Yeah, I'm majoring in Computer Engineering. What about you?"

"Nursing; I aspire to be a travel nurse," I took another sip, and my head began to feel heavy.

"That's awesome; I haven't heard anyone express that dream before."

"Yeah, and I haven't really shared it with anyone. I'm sure my dad would prefer I work at a private hospital."

"I guess he wouldn't approve of the idea of you being a travel nurse."

"You catch on quickly; no, he wouldn't. He's always wanted us to stay nearby, while I want to travel far from...h__," my voice trailed off.

"Hey, are you alright?"

"I f_e_el d__izzy."

"Here, drink some water," he offered, but I struggled to grab it properly. He moved from his side of the seat to help me drink some water. Although it didn't help that much, it did soothe my dry throat.

"Just help me walk to my dorm," I requested.

"Sure, but I don't know where your dorm is."

"I'll guide you on the way." I didn't think I could handle being in this area much longer. My head was pounding, and the loud music from the speakers didn't make it any better. He placed his arm around my shoulders and helped me stand when suddenly a tall shadow appeared in front of us.

"I'll take over from here," he said, sounding like Nic
