Chapter 28 - KRYPT-Ch.28: Missions of the First Layer

Matthew Atkinson & Natalie Russell

First Layer of the Supernatural Realm

[Main Mission: Survive for twelve hours!]

[Grade Mission: Kill the monsters!]

[Tip: The more monsters you kill within twelve hours, the higher your grade and reward will be.]

These missions were the contents of the holographic panel.

All the text was in a scarlet font, which looked somewhat intimidating.

The supernatural people who were about to enter the city stopped immediately and frowned.

However, there was no surprise or strange look on everyone's face, because their professors had said that there would be clear mission objectives in the supernatural realm.

Matthew also stopped and looked towards Natalie.

"Natalie!"

At this moment, the girl frowned, her mind entirely focused on the missions that had just appeared.

"The main mission requires us to survive in this world for twelve hours, but there is no specified location, so... should we go into the city now?" Matthew asked.

Natalie only pondered for a moment before making a decision:

"Let's go into the city!"

"Oh?" Matthew asked, "Didn't you just say that something was wrong with this city? Why do you want to go in now?"

Natalie seemed very patient with Matthew and immediately explained. "This place is too desolate, with nothing here. We don't know what the monsters are yet, or how powerful they are. If there are too many monsters, we'll be easily surrounded and trapped if we stay here."

"Although this city in front of us is suspicious, at least there are many buildings for us to hide in. So, for safety reasons, let's go into the city!"

Hearing this, Matthew smiled and nodded.

He then asked, "What if this city is the biggest demon den? If we take the initiative to go to the most dangerous place, wouldn't that be suicidal?"

"The possibility is minimal."

Natalie said, "Professor Grant said that although the first ten layers of the supernatural realm are mandatory, they are all for newcomers and are not too difficult. Especially in the first layer of the supernatural realm, the survival rate is relatively high, and there shouldn't be such dangerous traps."

Matthew was very satisfied with this answer.

He now felt that it was a good idea to follow Natalie. After all, he was the lazy one. Why bother leading if there's someone reliable around to make decisions for you?

"Well, let's go into the city!"

Then, the two walked towards the city gate again.

Among the other teams, most chose the same option, but two teams opted to stay in the wild.

The process of entering the city was very smooth. There was no hindrance at all.

"Hello, travelers from other lands. I am the sheriff of Roan City. On behalf of the City Lord's Mansion, I welcome you all."

The sheriff at the city gate was a middle-aged man wearing retro armor. He had a high nose bridge, deep-set eyes, and relatively fair skin. He looked very similar to a European, but his eyes and hair were black, which gave him a somewhat Eastern European or Middle Eastern appearance.

It seemed that the statement that each layer of the supernatural realm was an independent world was indeed true.

Of course, none of this mattered at the moment. What mattered was that the words spoken by the sheriff were in an unknown language.

But everyone could understand it clearly!

This was because, after entering the supernatural realm, all supernatural people would automatically master the language of the spiritual world.

The sheriff looked at everyone with a warm smile on his face!

Just as everyone was about to enter the city, the sheriff suddenly warned everyone with a serious face, "Roan City is a city full of freedom. You can go anywhere. However, I must remind you that it will be dark in an hour. When darkness covers the earth, do not run around."

These words conveyed a wealth of information, instantly capturing everyone's attention.

Before, no one knew the time; was it morning or afternoon? Because the sky was always gloomy.

Now, from what the sheriff said, everyone realized that it would be dark in another hour.

The sheriff reminded everyone not to be out and about after dark.

It clearly indicates that there would be danger after nightfall.

It was very likely that something strange would happen then!

Then, seeing the sheriff being so easy to talk to, someone couldn't help but speak up, "Your Excellency, the Sheriff, we have come from a distant land and don't have a place to stay yet. Moreover, we lost our money during our journey... Now we want to get through the night in Roan City safely. I wonder if Your Excellency, the Sheriff, can give us some good advice?"

This person spoke English, but the sheriff seemed to understand him. There seemed to be no communication barrier at all.

"Oh! How unfortunate!"

The sheriff first showed a sympathetic look, then pondered for a moment before making a suggestion. "If you have money, I recommend you go to Moonlight Tavern. They not only have fine wine, but also comfortable rooms and hot water. You can take a hot bath to relieve the fatigue of your journey."

"If you don't have any money… I suggest you try your luck at City Lord Earl Linley's Mansion. Earl Linley is a very hospitable and generous man. Perhaps he could provide you with a house and some food so you can rest for the night."

After hearing the latter part of the sentence, the eyes of many extraordinary people lit up.

"Thank you for your advice, Mr. Sheriff." The person immediately expressed his gratitude.

The sheriff smiled, accepted the thanks, and enthusiastically offered instructions: "Go straight along this road. At the end, you'll see Earl Linley's Mansion."

The person expressed his gratitude again, then headed towards Earl Linley's Mansion with his companions.

Among other supernatural people, some were also interested in this free accommodation and followed suit.

Matthew asked, "Natalie, what should we do?"

Natalie thought for a moment and said, "The sheriff just said that it will be dark in another hour. Let's start by going around the city first and checking it out. If that doesn't work, we can stay at the Earl's Mansion."

This was precisely what Matthew wanted.

Then, the two of them walked towards the city.

This was a city full of exotic atmosphere.

Whether it was the medieval-style houses on both sides of the road or the pedestrians in medieval attire, they all made everyone feel as if they had arrived in a prosperous city from another world.

Matthew and Natalie walked on the street without attracting the attention of passers-by.

The two of them were carefully observing everything around them.

Matthew discovered that, although this city was not large, it had distinct class divisions.

Ordinary people on the street generally wore off-white attire. Wealthy shopkeepers wore silk. Nobles of higher status adorned themselves with bright jewelry and traveled by horse-drawn carriage.

Although these individuals belonged to different social classes, each of them had a happy smile on their face and seemed content with their lives.

At least from their rosy faces, it could be seen that the resources here were very abundant!

Matthew frowned slightly.

An isolated city without agriculture or animal husbandry, yet it was able to have sufficient resources...

Natalie was right, this city was very suspicious!

At that moment, some cheers came from the front, attracting the attention of the two.
