The bell above the comic store chimed as I stepped outside, clutching my newest treasures. The latest One Piece volume rested in my hands, its glossy cover marking the release of the 3000th episode and the 38th book. My heart was racing with excitement; for a fan like me, this was pure bliss.
But fate had other plans.
The road home was quiet, the streetlights casting long shadows across the pavement. I barely had time to notice the sudden roar of an engine before it happened.
A truck—its headlights blazing—came charging out of nowhere.
