Chapter 27: Dividing the Divine Power! I Want to Take the Ocean Water 1
Dividing the Divine Power?
Ocean God Pontus didn't quite understand what he was saying, but he sensed this wasn't a good situation.
"Uncle Tartarus, can you tell me what the division of divine power means?" Pontus asked.
Tartarus said, "You know. Gods are some kind of material or immaterial being born from the world of Chaos. Material things are like the earth and the abyss, while immaterial things are like darkness and night."
"Different gods possess corresponding divine authority, which I call divine power. For example, Sister Gaia is the earth, and her divine power is control over the earth. I am the abyss, and my divine power is control over the abyss."
"When we gods are born, we receive certain information and memories bestowed upon us by Chaos. One rule I know is that the earth, the abyss, darkness, night, and sky are all unique."
"That is, Chaos will not give birth to another god of the earth, nor will it give birth to another god of the abyss. But regarding you, are you the original ocean?"
Tartarus's sudden question silenced Pontus.
"I am, am I not?" Pontus muttered to himself, lost in thought.
He hadn't realized this before, but when Tartarus brought it up, he realized the problem.
Tartarus smiled. "Pontos, you know you're the God of the Sea. We know you are, too. We can sense that you currently hold divine authority over the sea."
"But in terms of your true self, are you the ocean itself?"
Pontos couldn't answer.
Ninety-nine percent of Chaos's memories at birth were bestowed upon him. His subsequent growth was spent communicating with other gods.
So, Pontos knew his true self.
Tartarus continued, "We have a true essence, and that essence corresponds to divine authority. Divine authority is unique—a simple principle. But starting with you, some divine authorities will no longer be unique and will branch out."
"For example, your true essence isn't the ocean. Rather, you are the depression that extends to the end of the world, holding and containing the ocean and surrounding it. You are the earth's depression, the bottom of the ocean."
"Because the ocean is within you, you were the first to control it, becoming the god of the ocean. Therefore, the ocean's true essence isn't you, nor does it belong entirely to you. Naturally, gods may arise in the future to compete with you for the ocean."
After hearing Tartarus' words, Pontos, the god of the ocean, fell into deep thought.
The words of Gaia, the Earth Mother, still lingered in his ears.
"I do control the ocean, but as Tartarus said, I merely control it, not the ocean itself."
He recalled Tartarus's account of the sky god's intervention before his birth.
The scenes before his birth became clearer and clearer. Was it the ocean godhood gifted to him by the world?
Or was it simply delegated to him by the world. Whoever seized it would own it.
Is the ocean godhood destined to belong to him?
Is it truly a misunderstanding? Is Uranus, the sky god, truly trying to protect him?
If there hadn't been a battle between Tartarus, the god of the abyss, and Uranus, the sky god.
Perhaps, the ocean godhood wouldn't have landed in the pit of the earth, but would have floated in the sky.
At that time, he would be born, but only in the pit of the earth, not as a god of the sea.
Because of his control of the ocean, Pontus became even more certain of its immense power and its enormous potential for growth.
"Who wouldn't want such a powerful ocean godship? But only the Sky God and the Abyss God dare to compete with the Mother Goddess for it."
The honest eyes of the Ocean God, Pontus, suddenly turned cold. He had already confirmed the truth of that day.
"The Mother Goddess said that Tartarus has always helped the earth, as well as darkness and night. This uncle treats other gods with kindness, but not Uranus, the Sky God."
"Since my birth, the sky has seemed to have grown countless eyes. He has always watched the ocean, but has never entered it."
"Although we are brothers, he truly wants to seize my ocean godship! Now he is my greatest threat!"
Pontus now felt threatened.
Thinking of Uranus, the sky god whose power far surpassed his own, Pontus looked at Tartarus and said sincerely, "My dear uncle, I truly owe you a huge debt of gratitude."
"You helped me before I was born. With your help, I safely obtained the Sea Godship."
"If I lose the Sea Godship, I will no longer be the Sea God, but merely the ocean's depths, perhaps even unable to attain deification."
"The Mother Goddess gave me life as a body, and you gave me the life of the Godship."
"Now you have generously spoken of the future of the ocean. Your devotion to me exceeds even that of the Mother Goddess. To repay you, I am willing to give everything I have to thank you for your kindness."
"However, in the future, the Sea Godship will be divided, and I, now even weaker, will be unable to help you."
At this point, Pontus's expression became melancholy.
He continued, "I don't ask you to tell me how to deal with the division of divine power. You've already helped me enough."
"Now, while I still have complete control over the ocean godhood, I simply want to repay you with all my strength. Please allow me to do something that will help you, so that I can feel at ease."
Tartarus' expression remained unchanged, but his inner appreciation for the First Sea God had greatly improved.
"I understand why, after becoming the Sky God, Gaia and this First Sea God had so many stories, giving birth to so many divine sons."
"This god is very eloquent and understanding. This is exactly what I want. It saves me from having to fabricate so many stories. This is better."
With a few words, the Ocean God, Pontus, made clear his knowledge of the Sky God's evil deeds and his stance on the side of the Abyss, yet he also offered sacrifices in exchange for rewards, retreating to advance.
Tartarus had achieved his purpose in this trip to the ocean.
He smiled and said, "Pontos, my nephew, I understand your desire to help me. Naturally, I cannot allow you to be bullied by the future new god."
"The division of the ocean's divine authority is inevitable, but the exact amount is not. So, what you need to do is..."
"Make the future new god who wants to divide your ocean's divine authority take as little as possible."
"How should I do that?" Pontos asked eagerly.
"Accelerate your growth and become stronger," Tartarus said. "The ocean and its depths contain a great deal of Chaos, wreaking havoc and restricting your growth."
"First, I will devour all of the Chaos within. You will grow faster and stronger."
"Second, try to analyze the element of water, comprehend its laws, and sense its essence. Once you gain a deeper understanding, you may be able to seize even more ocean divine authority."
"Finally, to satisfy your resolve to help me, I would like to take some of the ocean water with me. Is that okay?"
