Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

After about three minutes he stopped running, but he didn't give his body this command, it simply did so on it's own and Solum wasn't able to move. The dark rays too stopped moving and the teens were catching their breaths again.

If one thing was certain he knew he had to run away from the following darkness, so why couldn't he move? When the darkness started chasing them again it prompted them to run continuing the chase of cat and mouse.

When the rays had stopped two teen were enveloped by the darkness by then and they ran frantically within the darkness not being able to run out of it. They tripped over dust pans and chairs before screaming out in agony. The next time when the rays started moving the remaining teens managed to create a larger distance between it and darkness.

Only eight teenagers were there now and as they got closer the boy in the glasses noticed Solum. But instead of calling out and warning the boy the glasses boy said nothing and ignored him. Simply turning his head forward again.

Solum didn't know any of the teenagers, but he joined them on the run. The rays stopped once more and some of the teens felt their lungs burning on fire. The tall glasses one was breathing heavily, but he could still stand upright. Solum figured he was use to running.

The next time the rays started chasing them again a boys dropped to the ground as if he had tripped over air.

" No Jay!" a girl cried out stopping to help the boy. As they stood up to run they were surrounded by darkness. As far as the eyes could see there was darkness and then low growls and giggles. The boy and the girl held each other arms and started running.

Something then caught the girl's leg causing them to fall and she screamed out. The boy was shocked, but as he shock himself out from his frozen state he kicked the girl in her face easily setting himself free from her grasp.

Jay kept running not knowing where he was going and the next second he ran straight into the mouth of a figure. He felt as something sharp pierced pass his flesh and before he could scream properly he couldn't.

As Solum ran with the other teenagers he realized that the dark rays seemed slower. When the rays stop so did they unable to move.

" Kelly! Jay!" a girl screamed out dropping herself to the ground with her mouth facing the direction of the darkness. As expected there wasn't a response, she broke down in tears knowing she would never see her friends again.

" Where are we even?"

" Is this some dream?" A boy asked before slapping him hard across the cheek, he slapped himself so hard one side of his face glowed red and a small patch of blood lingered at the corner of his lip.

Solum watched as the taller boy kept himself composed, unfazed, quiet and ready to run. Solum knew he too had to run, Solum didn't need anyone to tell him the obvious. If the darkness touched him he was a dead man.

Seeing the darkness move the remaining teens did so too and the girl who was crying a moment ago fell victim to the darkness.

The teens kept running they weren't even sure how long they had been running. They felt thirsty, drained and at their limits. Their head was building a headache and their vision felt blurry. But they feared death, especially one they couldn't see.

As time passed only four students remained now, three boys and a girl.

The small group was on a small hill now as they gazed over their hometown that they only recently settled into. It's almost as if they were being chased away. Over the town seemed to be covered with a dark vail or a curtain. The sun was up and shining bright, but for some phenomenal there was a shadow over the town.

Solum felt out of breath, he wasn't even sure how he managed to keep going this long as he wasn't someone who used to exercised.

In the distance as they kept running they spotted the sign with the town's name.

Seeing this the boy in the glasses started to go faster as if he saw a finish line.

They weren't sure why the boy was running faster but they followed all running together to catch up to him. They were only a few steps away from the sign now.

Solum was at his limit, but kept going, he was only a few steps away too, but then he tripped and was surrounded by darkness everywhere. His heart stopped beating and the blood in his veins stopped flowing. On the lighter side the teens watched as the darkness didn't pass the sign and now there was only three of them.

Solum was in the darkness hearing omnious low crackles as if the owners were unidentified animals. He slowly lifted his body up and he heard the rattle of tree leaves and wet sappy foot steps.

Solum saw the light before him and with careful, quiet steps he jogged out into the light. Seeing the the darkness was no longer chasing them two of the remaining teens collapsed onto the road, but the boy wearing the glasses only bent over on his knees. His legs were shaking, but he wasn't going to let his guard down.

While the dark curtain remained the teens stayed put, but then they saw as the boy just fell jogged out of the darkness jogging into theight before them. This stunned them that they leaped to their feet trying to figure out how he survived.

" You're not dead?" the boy asked stunned.

"How's that possible? What did you do," followed the girl with questions of her own.

The boy in the glasses was standing upright now, but he didn't say anything remaining quiet. It was obvious that he was stunned, but he wasn't going to say anything.

The all could free move for some reason now and they stepped away from the darkness. They were exhausted. The dark vail still remained unmoving. They weren't sure what to think of it so they waited.

The girl who was there pulled four candy from her pocket and handed them out hoping it might help them with their thirst.

They accepted the candy. The glasses boy was hesitant but put it into his mouth.

An hour had passed and finally the darkness vanished into thin air. They all noticed this and they carefully walked back from where they came. Everything and everywhere was still, empty and quiet, but they kept moving going home.

Solum was the first to reach his house and she slowly entered inside, there was familiar feeling about this fear. No one was there, Solum carefully went to his room and when he open the door he spotted someone on his bed.

Solum slowly walked over to the figure and when he was close enough, Solum noticed that the figure was himself.
