Chapter 7 - The Girl and the Pokémon ( Part 6 )

< The Path We Create >

Finally coming to a stop, Felicia hid behind a tree to catch her breath. She quickly took out her phone and started her emergency contact toward Mr. Marcelo, but suddenly, the air around her seemed to freeze, her breathing stopped, and she couldn't even breathe as the inside of her nose felt so cold, to the point of freezing. No, it actually starts to freeze!

Felicia moved away from the tree immediately. The tree she had been resting on was now fully encased in ice and began cracking. A mischievous chuckle soon followed the creaking sound, as a figure slowly appeared behind the now-cracking tree.

The Pokémon was pure white, with two blue horns on the top of its head, with an orange streak on its upper abdomen, acting as a sash of some kind, with the airy cloud on its feet. The Pokémon hover while letting out a snickering, using one of its arms that was attached to its head to cover it lower face.

"...Froslass? Eh…A-a new evolution of Frosslass?! W-wait, why is Frosslass even here in the first place!? Imported?! Is it on the loose!?" Panic set in for Felicia for the first time as questions bubbled up in her mind, but before she could even try to understand those questions, Frosslass' eye gleamed with mischievous playfulness, and suddenly, five ice forms into a lance and all launched straight toward her.

Felicia's eyes almost pop out at the sudden attack, and her body moves in sync with her thoughts; she needs to get away!

Felicia jumped backward, dodging the lance that wasn't even aimed properly, probably just to scare her, but the effect of the lance was truly terrifying. The ground it touches has already frozen solid. If she gets hit by those, don't even think about losing a limb cause of blood loss, she would freeze to death the moment it even grazes her.

"Wow…you are quite a terrifying one aren't you?" Felicia let out a strained smile as the Frosslass just continued giggling while dancing around, her eyes were still full of that playfulness.

Felicia thinks that she knows the danger of Pokémon; she truly thinks she knows, but maybe her knowledge needs freshening up, because she stays with Ponewt all the time, with such a strong Pokémon at her side to protect her; she never truly faces the normal danger the ranger or trainer faces every time they fight a Pokémon.

This was truly her first time she came face-to-face with the natural disaster that is called a Pokémon.

Felicia reached into her backpack for her emergency repellent spray, but she also remained vigilant, watching every of Frosslass's moves.

The whimsy Pokémon did not even give what she took out from her backpack a glance before materializing another five ice lances, all launched toward her, and the moment the lance began accelerating, Felicia threw her last Spray can toward it, making it explode, and the pink fume burst out immediately.

But before Felicia could even make a move, the fume all instantly turned to ice shards before quickly disappearing.

"Well…it couldn't be that easy, is it?" Felicia grumbled quietly. She had already pressed the emergency button on her phone with the psychic alert buzzer she was given by Mr. Marcelo beforehand. Sooner or later, the ranger will come and help her deal with this. The problem is how she is going to last that long?

This could take as long as just a minute to even an hour, maybe even a day if she were really and truly unlucky. Well, curiously, it truly kills the Meowt now, isn't it?

Felicia glanced warily at the now still Frosslass, who also looked directly at her. Something in the eye of Frosslass changed; it no longer only contained playfulness, but now, it came with a low degree of…wary.

Did it fear what trick she would have up her sleeve? Well, Felicia is truly out of tricks; the only things that could even be called a trick are the bags of berries she stuffed in her backpack…huh…maybe it could work?

Sure, it got quite the area of attack, but… Is it not really that precise? Maybe because of its nature, the Frosslass was too playful and was not very vigilant; it only displayed a little degree of waryness because Felicia dodged its attack thrice in a row now.

So the next trick will be her last and final gamble…So she needs to sell it, act it so well that even she would believe it, act so confident that no one would refute that she truly has a trick up her sleeve…

"What? You can only use two moves?" Act cocky. "Is that all you got? Can't even hit me with those little attacks of yours, how would you fight other Pokémon?"

Frosslass's head twitched a bit, now it used another of its hands to cover its lower mouth as if it was acting angry.

Felicia's hand moved, her backpack was now in her hand, she used her other hand to grab and break open the bag of berries. Act suspicious.

The eye of Frosslass moves from her face to her hand, and its eye twitches with each daring move she makes in front of it.

Observe the audience.

Frosslass arm twitch, ice materializing at alarming speed.

Now execute!

Felicia threw her bag forward, and the ice lance immediately made contact. Just like she thought, it wouldn't pierce through the bag.

The backpack immediately burst with a chilling ice fog, courtesy of Frosslass's own ice attack. The juice in the fruit became frozen and burst at the same time of the impact, bursting and turning into ice dust because some of the ice sublimated, forming a nice fine fog for her.

Felicia immediately threw the berry in her hand through the dust as hard as she could before the fog could settle, and she immediately bolted afterward.

Judging from the Frosslass herself, its level is probably around beginner level, probably around one or two badges. How did it change form, and how can it get so strong? Felicia didn't know; she trusted that the sudden appearance of objects flinging toward them would startle newly trained or even early wild Pokémon.

And thankfully, her gamble worked because for the next ten minutes, she didn't feel the pursuer of the Frosslass at all. When she came out of her trance, she was already in front of a lake.

Heaving out a sigh of relief, Felicia dragged her tired and adrenaline-drained body toward the lake and gulped down a handful of water.

"Ha…That was dangerous." Sighing, she probed down and was ready to wash her face, only to stop once she looked toward the water reflection. Behind her was Frosslass, who did not hide her lower face; the eye did not form a smile, and she no longer giggled.

Behind her was a massive ice spear that easily towered over Felicia.

The only thing that came to Felicia's mind was one thing, and it was one thing only.

"Ah…I'm screw-" The ice descent.
