Chapter 2 - Keep Inventory and Set-Point Teleportation

"Replying to Host, the Host only needs to complete the tasks issued by this System to unlock random mods."

"Random mods? Can't I choose them myself?"

"Replying to Host, not at present. The Host's level is too low and you do not have the authority to select your own mods."

'Not at present, huh?'

Lin Tian caught the nuance in the System's words, which meant it would be possible in the future.

As for now, he'd better figure out how to survive the first night.

Although he could revive infinitely, that didn't mean getting attacked wouldn't hurt!

Besides, he didn't have Keep Inventory on Death yet. If he died, everything on him would be gone.

And so, Lin Tian began the grand enterprise of punching trees.

While punching trees, Lin Tian was also asking the System questions in his mind.

"System, what's my first task?"

"Replying to Host, the first task is: [Acquire a diamond!]"

Hearing the voice in his head, Lin Tian felt this would be a bit tricky. The very first task was to get a diamond!

It seemed the tasks would only get harder from here.

After all, finding diamonds was purely a matter of luck and perseverance.

If his luck was bad, this task could take forever.

Still, the current plan was to punch trees first, then go mining.

Who knows, if he was lucky, maybe he'd run right into an exposed mineshaft?

Then iron would be taken care of, and with a bit more time, diamonds wouldn't be a problem!

With his plan set, Lin Tian continued punching trees.

First, he made a Crafting Table, then a Wooden Pickaxe. Next, he dug down three blocks to get some stone, then made a Stone Axe, Stone Pickaxe, and Stone Sword.

Once he was done, Lin Tian proceeded to chop down all the surrounding trees.

By the time the area was cleared, the square sun in the sky had just passed its zenith.

'Looks like time in this real world doesn't pass as quickly as it does in the game!'

This was good news for Lin Tian. He wasn't sure if he could handle the Monsters that appeared at night, so the later the night came, the better.

Plus, it gave him more time to work.

Speaking of which, Steve's Physique was truly something else. After chopping so many trees, Lin Tian didn't feel tired at all!

At this point, Lin Tian's Backpack already held nearly four stacks of logs!

Next up was to find an exposed mineshaft, or a Village would do too.

Lin Tian headed north. After walking for more than an hour, he finally discovered... a Village!

Seeing the Village, Lin Tian immediately rushed toward the farmland.

After walking for so long, he was already feeling very hungry. His so-called Hunger Level was probably about to hit bottom!

He didn't know if his health would start to drop when his hunger ran out, but... it probably wouldn't.

After all, he had only merged with Steve's Physique; there was no mention of a Hunger Level or anything like that.

Lin Tian directly harvested all the ripe Wheat and Potatoes, leaving the empty plots for the Villagers to replant.

'These Villagers are just mindless creatures anyway.'

Lin Tian looked at the Villagers' vacant stares and sighed.

This was a problem he would have to consider in the future. There were no intelligent beings in this entire world; he was going to be living here in solitude.

Lin Tian shook his head, pushing these thoughts away, and continued harvesting Potatoes.

'Who knows, maybe I'll get some kind of world-traveling mod in the future?'

After all, the number of mods was simply immense.

.....

After gathering the Potatoes, Lin Tian took out his Crafting Table and crafted the Wheat he had collected into Bread, deciding to fill his stomach first.

After eating the Bread, Lin Tian began to wander through the Village. What he wanted to find most right now was a Blacksmith.

After all, the probability of diamonds appearing in a Blacksmith's forge was very high!

He searched the entire Village. Just when Lin Tian thought this Village didn't have a Blacksmith, he spotted a splash of red in a low-lying area.

Seeing that red glow, Lin Tian got excited. It looked a lot like Lava!

Could the Blacksmith be buried under the dirt?

Lin Tian wondered if that was possible.

Still, he decided to go and check it out first.

When he reached the source of the red light, Lin Tian indeed saw two blocks of Lava, with a Furnace right next to them!

It really was a Blacksmith!

Lin Tian calmed his racing heart. 'Maybe there won't be any diamonds?'

After clearing away the dirt above the lava, Lin Tian walked into the Blacksmith's shop.

A Chest came into view.

With a pounding heart, Lin Tian piously clasped his hands together and bowed towards the heavens.

"The Respected, Most High, Most Holy, Most Benevolent and Merciful Jade Emperor, Great Heavenly Venerate of the Mysterious Vault, Namo Master Shakyamuni Buddha, Jesus Christ, Notch, Herobrine..."

After praying for a full three minutes, Lin Tian finally looked back at the Chest before him.

He took a deep breath. Open!

"Bling! Bling!"

A sparkling blue crystal appeared before his eyes.

"Woohoo~~!!"

"Thank you! Thank you!"

Seeing that there really was a diamond, Lin Tian was ecstatic.

He eagerly put the diamond away, and the System's voice sounded in his mind.

"[Ding! Detected that Host has completed the task: [Acquire the first diamond!]. Do you wish to submit the task? [Yes/No]]"

'Huh?'

Seeing the prompt to submit, Lin Tian felt it was a bit odd.

"System, if I choose 'Yes', will my diamond disappear?"

"Replying to Host, no, it is merely a formality."

"..."

'Even a formality, huh! In that case... Yes!'

"[Ding! Congratulations to the Host for completing the task: [Acquire the first diamond!].]"

"[Ding! Unlocked Keep Inventory on Death.]"

"[Ding! Unlocked Set-Point Teleportation.]"

'Hmm?'

'Were there two rewards?'

Seeing that two functions had been unlocked, Lin Tian was a bit confused, and also...

"System, are these considered mods? And why were two unlocked?"

"Replying to Host, the Host does not belong to this world; therefore, all functions are classified as mods. Secondly, the mods unlocked upon task completion are random. It might be one, it might be two, or it might be three."

'Is that so?'

Lin Tian looked down at his own "rounded" body, which didn't match the world at all.

Indeed, he wasn't a Blocky Person. He still looked the same as he did in his original world, for reasons unknown.

Still, this was fine. Being a Blocky Person would feel weird anyway.

...

Lin Tian looked at the two mods he had just obtained. One was Keep Inventory on Death, and the other was Set-Point Teleportation?

He didn't want to test Keep Inventory on Death just yet, but this Set-Point Teleportation function...

"System, what is this Set-Point Teleportation?"

"Replying to Host, Set-Point Teleportation refers to designating a location for targeted teleportation."

"Then how do I do it?"

"Replying to Host, the Host can place a marker at any location you have visited. After marking, the Host can teleport to the marked spot from other locations."

'Is that it? Sounds simple!'

Lin Tian focused on the information the System had just transmitted into his mind.

He stretched out his right hand, and a beam of white light appeared in front of him.

At the same time, a marker point named "Village" appeared in his mind.

Lin Tian walked to the edge of the Village and tried to connect with the information in his head.

The next moment, Lin Tian vanished from the spot.

When he reappeared, he was back where the white light was shining.

"This is really convenient!" Lin Tian exclaimed.

Just then, another sound echoed in his mind.

"...."
