"Sir!" the doctor chirped the moment Rihan stepped into the room.
Rihan barely acknowledged him. His eyes were locked on his unconscious Alpha, IV drip in place, monitors softly beeping. The sight twisted something sharp and ugly in his chest. Guilt settled heavily.
He moved closer anyway.
"How is he?" he asked quietly.
"It seems you're his partner," the doctor said, nodding to himself.
Rihan didn't look at him. He reached for Taeryn's hand instead, holding it carefully, like he was afraid even that might hurt him.
"You're aware of what's happening to him?" the doctor asked.
Rihan finally looked up, his eyes cold. "Is it going to kill him?"
"No, no," the doctor hurried to reassure him, waving his hands. "It isn't critical. It's actually very natural. His body is responding to you exactly as it should. You're an Enigma, and he's your partner. His body is temporarily changing to accommodate that."
