As soon as the magic contract took effect, Baston felt the puppet was bonded by strong force. Unfortunately, the real him who hiding
inside the old book didn't have the same effect as the puppet. It meant whether he violated the contract or not, then the puppet would be the one who took the blame. As for him, the puppet master only worked as spectator and nothing else.
Regarding the contract itself, Baston had already learned much about it when he visited Alicia's house before. At the library, he rummaged everything he needed to concern about the kingdom and how the world worked around. It was full of general knowledge unlike the library at the academy. He thought it should be no different but apparently, the status of each student would provide each authority whether they could access much or less. As the lowest class of person, Baston could only take a scrap of it without knowing too much. Thankfully, he got the noble acquaintance who gave an
opportunity.
Right at the moment, Alicia was the biggest benefactor for him, followed by Panto as the merchant's son. In the future, he must hold these 2 people dearly so that if anything happened, he would know it firsthand. Driven by the curiosity, Alicia should regard the cult as dangerous organization. Perhaps,
Baston then could make one or two events occurred in the meantime. Of course, it must be related with the cult so he could push Alicia's curiosity even further.
As for the Panto, it was kind of hard to convince him regarding the cult. Born as merchant's son, his focus should be about the money and business. When Baston met this boy for the first time, he lied about the
boy of being targeted by someone. At the beginning, Panto was afraid and always go closer to him. As the time passed, the fear should subside before it disappeared
completely. By then, Baston wondered whether he should create a little drama about the cult who was still chasing him. The idea might be good, but sooner or later, it couldn't keep up since Panto seek more peaceful circumstance rather than being involved in dangerous situation.
Back at the sight of his target, Baston then watched the next thing Levan would do as soon as he got the confirmation regarding the contract. He giggled happily and the assistant also followed him. The fat boy
only made the puppet smiled a little, waiting for about a few seconds until Levan stopped his excited expression.
"Ha… ha… ha… Thank you, Baston, for signing the contract. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it."
"Yes, congratulations for you, Baston," the assistant added, "Regarding the news about your employment to us, you can arrange it whether you want to announce it now or later. You can also hide it if you want to stay out from the limelight. But I suggest you announce it since this thing is a big news. People in the company will be happy to welcome you."
"Thank you…" Baston replied, "Then, is there anything I can help you with again, Sir Levan?"
"Let me think about it…" Levan pondered before shaking his head, "There's nothing much to do today. You can go back first and I will call you if there's something…"
Baston stood up and before he could turn back, he slipped on purpose. He made himself looked like he accidentally crashed into the table, ruining the nearby books and documents before it went down altogether to the floor. Looking at this, both of Levan and the assistant were dumbfounded before
they helped Baston to stand up.
"I'm sorry, Sir. Perhaps, I'm too excited about what is happening so I can't stand correctly…" Baston tried to show his sheepish smile.
"Ha… ha… ha… Don't you worry about it…" Levan as always looked kind enough, "Alright, be careful on your way back. Don't go tumbling over for a second time…"
"Yes, Sir Levan…"
Just like that, Baston then went outside and stayed hidden in the nearby trees. Before he came back, he secretly let out one of his puppets inside. It quickly transformed into a small rat and hid between the messy books
before quickly dashed toward the edge of the room where a cabinet stood still. The puppet perfectly fit behind and waited there to gain the information. Baston could only do it like this because the perimeter was protected by magic barrier. If he chose to infiltrate this office with the puppet directly, it would alert Levan. Unlike the office on the warehouse, this one simply was different which should contain critical information.
"Congratulations to you, Sir. I'm pretty sure this young boy will bring unlimited surprise to you," the voice of the assistant came up.
"Yes, I can see that. Not only he got the talent in magic, but he also was smart enough when having the battle," the reply from Levan followed.
"But still, he's too careless, right? He just signs the magic contract without any more thinking. Perhaps, your good reputation
convinces him and that makes this boy believes everything you do."
"Ha… ha… ha… Exactly. Just I mentioned before, just throw some money and I believe anyone will soon agree with it. By the way, your idea regarding the wealth is very incredible. We don't have to throw out more money for him. Just promising the wealth he got for the inheritance already blinds him to agree and signs the magic contract."
"Yes, that fat boy never knows that it's impossible to hand over the accumulated wealth until this time. I wonder what will his face looks like when he found out that he got cheated. It will be too exciting to watch."
"Well, it's not our fault in the end. It's because he doesn't look more clearly about the terms inside the contract…"
Baston on the other hand just kept listening through his puppet. Although both of Levan and his assistant deemed him as careless and stupid, they didn't know that he was the smarter one and they would soon fall into their deaths. Anyway, he wanted to make sure the assassination plan against Levan would be the perfect one so he needed more time and information.
"By the way, Sir. Lately, many workers are getting inefficient. We shall fire those older and disabled one so we can make for more
useful one," the assistant came up with another matter.
"Yes, but I'm afraid it will backfire since we already employ them much longer than the new one. In addition, my reputation is at
stake here. If there's no strong excuse, then I'm afraid people will find trouble at us," Levan replied.
"I think it's quite simple, Sir. Since we already employ Baston to become one of us, then we can use him as our excuse."
"Tell me more about it…"
"It's like this. Everyone knows that the wizard needs much resources in order to advance to higher levels. In front of this fact, we can
tell others the reason we dismiss them. Because Baston needs much expensive
resources, we can only do this way since the works they do is truly inefficient. After this, I can picture there will be 2 possibilities about to happen."
"Oh, what is it?"
"Either they start to work harder with the same salary or they will blame Baston. Any option they take will never harm our interest. If they cherish their work here, they can only push harder than now. But if they want to find a problem with Baston, they still won't dare since he's a wizard with great talent. Our kingdom take care the people with strength so I believe they can only grumble inside their hearts."
"Yes, I believe so…"
Baston who heard it simply shook his head. It seemed this human trash really wanted to die badly. Not only Levan took advantage of him, but the man also wanted him to take all the blame. Truly, this scum was trying hard to appear benevolent but that would soon end as long as he killed this merchant. Remembering back at the magic contract, it looked good to get such a company. Even though he lacked management skill, he only needed to find someone to become the supervisor here.
The fat boy then waited for several minutes before there was no more conversation he could hear. It seemed both Levan and his assistant already left the office. Baston then summoned the rat back and replaced the
puppet with the real him. By the time it finished, he then went back to his place. Before Levan could dismiss his workers, he had to kill the man.
Other than such hideous conversation earlier, Baston also found out that there was a mechanism to control the office room. Beside the protection, it could also work as soundproof where people from outside wouldn't know anything happened inside. Levan should probably activate it when the
signing of the contract happened. In case that he rejected the offer, perhaps there would be a few terrible developments inside. Anyway, since he already signed the magic contract, Levan should lower his guard against him. He might have a chance to kill this man inside just the same with the assistant as combination.
Still, there was a problem after Levan died in his hand. Regarding the time and place, he couldn't go to the company every day because his status was just a student from Prius Academy. His priority should study and
learn something new, not to manage the workplace. Because of this, he needed to
find someone to take over it in the meantime. Baston decided to talk with Panto regarding this. Hopefully, he had one or two staffs who could handle it.
After such a long day, tomorrow came and the next round ran as usual. Today, Baston wanted to surrender since there was no need to advance more. He already signed the contract so he didn't need to show his awesomeness further to Levan. Although the man might be disappointed of his performance, he didn't give a damn for someone like Levan. He could bring the glory to the man but unfortunately, the man himself didn't want to share that glory and wanted him to take the blame for all the problems. This kind of person should be dead as soon as possible.
Baston wanted to rest easy since he intended to lose today. Whoever his opponent was should be the lucky one because the person would win automatically. He couldn't wait for the match to start before suddenly, Alicia came out from nowhere and sat beside him. As soon as the noble girl went near, Baston could feel the dangerous vibe emanated from other boys in the waiting
room.
"What are you doing here?" he whispered.
"Don't you know that I will be your opponent today?" Alicia simply smiled, "At last, we have an opportunity to battle with each other."
"But I really don't want to fight today…" Baston thought before replying, "Then, I will surrender…"
"No!" Alicia cut off, "I don't want such pitiful win."
"It's unfortunate, but I have an urgent matter to do today…" Baston looked at the girl, "It's regarding something you already know."
"The cult…" Alicia thought, exclaiming inside her mind.
There were still many mysteries regarding this organization. Alicia also still didn't know the name, but Baston insisted that she was better to never knew it forever. Perhaps, it was a forbidden name or cursed one.
Nevertheless, she still wanted to pursue them because of his curiosity. Even though Baston had urgent matter, but she still didn't want to pass this rare opportunity. She really wanted to have a spar with him in order to see whether she was strong enough or not.
"I still want to fight with you. I will grant you a wish if you can fulfill my request today."
Baston glanced at Alicia before he closed his eyes. Regarding the match, he wanted to flee at the beginning but when this noble
girl gave him a promise, it looked like he would regret it if he passed this chance. Perhaps, he could fight her half-heartedly before he made himself lose in the process. By this time, Alicia would owe him while he himself retreated beautifully.
