Chapter 72 - 72

Hello, Parker. Can we talk?"

One day after school, as Wang Kai was heading to the parking lot, he saw Peter being stopped by a man in a suit.

Wang Kai found the man in the suit very familiar.

Oh, isn't this our friend Coulson?

You found Spider-Man so quickly.

Your work efficiency is quite good.

"Excuse me, who are you?"

"I don't think we know each other."

Peter was taken aback.

He had no recollection of this person, so how did he know his name?

"We are from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

We're here to talk to you about your other identity, the one in the dark.

You're not planning to talk about it here, are you?"

Coulson's words startled Peter.

He thought his identity as Spider-Man was quite hidden, but now someone had found him.

Peter quickly looked around to see if anyone was paying attention.

"Don't worry, Parker.

No one else knows about this.

How about we have a talk?"

Coulson saw Peter's concern.

Of course, he wouldn't let this matter spread.

"Alright then, let's talk."

Peter chose to compromise and got into the car with Coulson.

Wang Kai also turned away from the corner.

He didn't know if Spider-Man would be recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D., but he wasn't among the first batch of Avengers anyway.

Instead, he was later brought over by Iron Man.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had appeared, but Wang Kai wasn't worried.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to find Peter because Peter was too high-profile, going out almost every night.

This significantly increased the chance of being discovered.

However, Wang Kai's tracks weren't that easy to trace.

Even trying to start with Mindy was unlikely now.

Back then, Damon and Mindy only dealt with criminals and thugs, which didn't even register on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar.

So much time had passed that any previous clues would have disappeared.

Wang Kai's guess was correct; S.H.I.E.L.D. truly had no leads.

Coulson had searched in New York for a long time but found no information about Wang Kai.

Furthermore, he hadn't thought of starting with Mindy; he hadn't even considered that Wang Kai would be working with others.

As for information on the Joker, it was completely blank.

Logically, someone so unconventional shouldn't leave no trace at all, but the fact was, he left no trace whatsoever except for appearing at the school and in front of the Oscorp building.

Having no other options, Coulson could only settle for the next best thing: finding Spider-Man.

At the same time, he wanted to find clues about the Joker from Spider-Man, as only Spider-Man and Dr. Connors had had contact with the Joker.

Perhaps Spider-Man might know something about the Joker.

In a coffee shop, after talking with Peter, Coulson was somewhat disappointed because Peter was also looking for the Joker and knew even less than Coulson did.

Coulson could only move on to his other objective, which was to invite Peter to join S.H.I.E.L.D.

But Peter was used to his freedom and casual ways, and his dream was to become a scientist like his father.

He didn't feel like becoming an agent, so he directly refused Coulson's invitation.

Coulson didn't force him, because according to Nick Fury's plan, the members of the Avengers Initiative were only temporarily assembled and wouldn't be interfered with in their daily lives.

Meeting Peter today and confirming his stance was enough.

Besides, he already knew Peter's identity and could ensure he could find him at any time.

After leaving his business card with Peter, Coulson left.

He still needed to continue tracking leads on the Joker.

Perhaps this time he would return empty-handed.

Coulson had a bad feeling.

Seeing Peter again the next day, Wang Kai could guess the choice Peter had made.

This guy indeed hadn't joined S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Hey, Kai, can we talk?"

It was rare for Peter to seek him out for a chat.

Wang Kai looked at the guy, then moved the tray on the table to make space for Peter to sit next to him.

"Of course, why not?

Want a piece?

My homemade cookies."

Wang Kai took out a few cookies, placed them on the tray, and offered them to Peter.

"Thanks.

Um, Kai, if you had powers beyond ordinary people, what would you do?"

Peter took a cookie, thanked Wang Kai, and then asked.

This made Wang Kai pause.

Peter's question was interesting.

Peter should have long since passed the period of confusion about gaining powers, and the way he went through it was quite painful, at the cost of a loved one's life.

But what did he mean by asking him now?

Was he suspecting something about himself?

"That's an interesting question.

Do you have to do something just because you gained powers?

I just want to live according to my own ideas."

Wang Kai smiled.

The American brainwashing idea of "with great power comes great responsibility" makes kids want to be superheroes.

It's this kind of ideological brainwashing that makes Americans support their government acting as the world police globally.

"Don't you want to do something?

Kai, at the start of the semester, you suddenly became so strong.

Did you gain some kind of power?"

Peter said in a low voice.

This made Wang Kai understand why Peter had suddenly appeared.

It turned out that at the start of the semester, when Wang Kai dealt with those bad students, he had used a bit too much strength, and Peter had suddenly remembered it now.

"You're overthinking it.

My strength increased from practicing cooking.

You know, Chinese cooking isn't as delicate as Western cooking.

Tossing woks, chopping ingredients, all of that takes a lot of strength.

Wasn't I busy all holiday?"

Wang Kai said with a smile, because other than that one time, he hadn't shown any abilities in front of others, so he wasn't afraid of Peter figuring anything out.

"Oh, I see.

No wonder."

Peter wasn't familiar with Chinese cooking, so he could only pretend to understand vaguely.

"Why did you suddenly think to ask about this?

Are you still remembering the argument between me and Stacy?

Are you, her boyfriend, here to settle the score?"

Wang Kai countered Peter.

This guy was really suspicious.

After meeting an agent, he turned into an agent himself.

He was really overthinking things.

But his intuition was really sharp, coming straight to him.

"No, of course not.

I was just curious and wanted to ask how you train.

I'm thinking of practicing too."

Peter quickly said, feeling a bit flustered.

His identity as Spider-Man couldn't be exposed, especially not to Gwen's father, or else things between him and Gwen would be over.

"Oh, actually, there are many ways to train your body.

The simplest is to use medicine.

Aren't you a good student?

Researching how to increase human genes and strengthen them is also a good method."

Wang Kai said deliberately, feeling inwardly pleased as he watched Peter become even more flustered.

He really wanted to hand out flyers everywhere and publicize Peter's true identity.
