Chapter 40 - New chief, Chapter 40

Pharam left the nurse's place, In wish he saw most of the people staring at him, awaiting an order, a guide, anything

"What do you plan," said a man

"What do you mean what do I plan?" asked Pharam

"You know, for the future? Do you have no future plans for the shelter? For the people?" asked the man

"I… Uh" he looked around him, people awaiting any hope, even a false one

He took a deep breath, closing his eyes, trying to pull out any last bit of bravery he had, before he spoke

"The past chief, wanted to keep you caged, surrounding him against any arrows, wanted to keep you as human shields"

"But I see no humans here, there are no more humans, I will not order you like he did, all I see is Vikings" said Pharam

"But you don't expect us to go to the wilderness blind? We know nothing about the outside, you alone with a few others managed to see those grounds," said another man

"We need a guide, someone to lead," said another

"No, I can't be a leader, that is only the act of the royal blood line, and now that is gone" said Pharam

They looked at each other, scared, confused, shocked, he continued before they could have the thought of walking away

"But what I can do, is be the light, your torch, I will only guide you, no more than that, and I shall do my best at it" said Pharam

He looked straight forward and spoke

"The chief was too afraid to fight back, but I spent my life doing so, and we shall continue on such. If the Varish wishes to steal our greens, let us paint it red"

The people's faces looked cheerful, as if they found purpose, life, light, he said following the energy

"We shall rebuild anew, above the leftovers of the past"

"Tonight, we build new, shelter. Tomorrow, we regain what we had, and we shall go on walking on this road to the future, until one side remains standing"

There was no screaming, no shouting, no yelling, no jumping around like idiots on drugs, only proud and excited looks, followed by footsteps

Pharam saw the people walking around, fixing the left over from both fires, taking off whatever represented the royal bloodline, the black flags with bright yellow suns in the centre, the things that handcuffed them to the old customs and traditions of the dead

Staring at the hard work of the people, he tried to pick up a burned plank, as his leg started hurting someone took it from him just to say

"Leave that to me chief"

Pharam stared confused at the man, but he couldn't aske for an explanation, he was still In disbelief

"So how is it?" said Ramo, bringing two drinks

He handed one to Pharam and continued as they both sat aside "How do you feel about it?"

"Being called the chief?" said Pharam "Not too bad, although I am not much of a fa, for nicknames"

"Nicknames are the only thing that keeps status, respect, order, they divide the people the right way "said Ramo sipping from his drink" good and bad, strong and weak, smart and stupid, you can't go to the battle field without a flag that distinguishes friend from foe"

"They also divide the people amongst themselves, keep them oppressed, in the end all I did was put the people under new rules, with the same roots" said Pharam

"No matter how long water stays in a cup, when you pour it, it is still liquid," said Ramo, Pharam did not understand the meaning of it, Ramo continued explaining

"Even if you uncuff a slave, in the end he will go and sleep in his cage, for he only learnt that as a bed for comfort"

"Wither you like it or not, if you pull out the weeds, you plant something else, that's the basics of gardening" said Ramo drinking what remained from his cup

He then proceeded to stand up as and said "If you don't plant grass, worse types of weeds might sprout" walking away he left Pharam deep in thought, he slowly and without noise u unsheathed a bit of his bloodied sword staring at his reflection

"In the end, people's mindset can only be changed with miracles" Pharam said to himself

Sarom, the new chief's brother was helping around another part, taking off any portraits of the royal bloodlines. People walking around him seemed interested in both him and his brother, while Jason just did his work beside them

"Were around him when he struck down the chief" said an older girl walking beside him holding some small boxes

"Oh me? No, I was not, although I was in the crowd, watching him of course" said Sarom

"Did you ever notice a glimpse of his intentions towards the chief; did he ever say in his sleep that he wished to kill him?" asked another walking by

"I… No, I don't really think he talks in his sleep," said Sarom

"I heard the chief fought back violently leading to his daughter's death, alongside the injurie of your brother's leg," said another boy

"Huh? I don't know about that to be honest" said Sarom, walking inside the crowd

Doryon said to Jason "Are you sure you are, okay? That nurse was helping you recover over the trauma of… you know, and you had to watch her burn by the chief's orders"

"Do not worry about it, I only knew her for a month or so, it is not like we are family or anything," said Jason

Doryon seemed to still be worried but Jason reassured him saying

"And don't worry about me having any grudges, the new chief came and talked it out with me"

The other kids had their attention swayed towards Jason, some had worried looks sadness painted across their faces, they seemed to pity him and his situation, Seryon looked around with wide vision, the attention he had went away

Seryon cut them out saying "And why should my brother apologies to you" said Seryon, he was not angry, just dissatisfied, feeling weird about what he just heard

"Umm…? I think you might have misheard me? I said we talked it out, and I said that it already happened, no apologies on neither side" said Jason trying to fix it before it burns any deeper

"I know what I heard, and this looks like made up lies, by you to try and gather attention again, like always" said Seryon

"I don't really think I wanted attention by it, all I did was answer to Doryon's question," said Jason

"Oh yes, try and push it on poor Doryon" as he put what he held on the flat carriage of the horse in the middle, there where everybody else reached to put their stuff

Doryon placing what he held tried speaking up

"He did not push anything at me, really, I was the one who stated the conversation—" Seryon cut him

"Doryon we all know you are too gentle, even if he did do it, you wouldn't want him to get the blame"

"Even if?" said Jason," I think you tongue is speaking the truth your heart is refusing to accept"

"Wha— what?" said Seryon looking around him and the kids murmuring, realising what he just spoke of

"That, is, not, what I said, nor what I meant, he is trying again—" he said looking at the boys and girls beside him before the trainer Ramo stood in the crowd and talked loudly getting all the attention

"Attention! attention pls! I have an announcement" said Ramo, the loud crowded space is no silent, no worker moved as they awaited the announcement

"Ehm!" he calmed himself down as he cleared his throat and said "The chief, Pharam, announced that he is recruiting people to the outside force"

"It is going to be a volunteer act, and it is in service of trying to rebuild the defence ling, signing up will be open by midnight, now go back to your work" he said before leaving them

The conversations amongst the people changed instantly, from what do you think about the new chief, to…

"Wish part are you going to sign up to" said a boy to Seryon, he regained his attention after being deep in thought and spoke

"Me? Well of course the most dangerous,"

"Of course he will you idiot, he is the brother of the chief, he needs to lead, that is in his blood after all" said another boy as they left. Jason stood beside Doryon

"And what about you?" asked Doryon

"I… well, I can't judge until I see the options cant I?" said Jason "What about you? Doryon"

Leaving the carriage behind as their voices grew smaller Doryon said "I will just be following you"

There on the carriage, the flag of black with the yellow sun erupting from the centre was half burnt, and the only place that was burnt was the centre, taking the light and leaving only the black it
