Cane's POV
She was taking longer than expected and she wasn't even picking up My calls. Anger and fear combines ran through my system. I couldn't bear to think of what would happen if she got attacked again. She was not even in a shape to defend herself.
My phone buzzed on my desk, jolting me out of my thoughts. Tabitha. I almost didn't answer. Talking to her was like poking a snake with a stick. But then again, she's the one attacking Stephanie.
I hit the button. "What?"
Her voice was all sugar and poison. "Cane, darling. We have a problem."
"I don't have problems. I have solutions. What is it?"
"It's your little pet. Stephanie."
My hand tightened on the phone. "What about her?"
"She's becoming a liability. The deal was to keep her out of it. But now... I think it's safer if we just remove the problem. Permanently."
The air in my study went cold. "Don't you dare."
She laughed. "Oh, my. Have you gone soft? Getting attached to the merchandise?"
