As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the training grounds, Itachi and Shisui lingered after their sparring session with Ryuga. The day's events weighed heavily on their minds, and they found themselves deep in conversation about Ryuga's burgeoning strength.
"Ryuga's progress is remarkable," Shisui said, leaning against a tree. "His potential is undeniable. He's almost at the level of a proper genin."
Itachi nodded thoughtfully, his expression serene but serious. "He has the skills, but he lacks the experience. Given time and the right guidance, he could become one of Konoha's greatest shinobi."
Shisui glanced at Itachi, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Speaking of guidance, have you thought about who might be his jounin mentor after graduation?"
Itachi sighed, shaking his head. "That's a decision for the Hokage. But it's an important one. Ryuga needs someone who can not only teach him but also understand the unique nature of his abilities."
The two continued their discussion as they made their way to the Hokage's office. The corridors of the Hokage Tower were quiet, the stillness only broken by the occasional passing shinobi. When they reached Minato's office, they knocked and entered, finding Minato buried in paperwork.
"Ah, Itachi, Shisui," Minato greeted them warmly, looking up from his desk. "What brings you here?"
"We've been discussing Ryuga's progress," Shisui began. "And we were wondering if you've decided on his jounin mentor after graduation."
Minato leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I've been giving it a lot of thought. I've already decided on Kakashi for Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke. But as for Ryuga... I'm still undecided."
Itachi and Shisui exchanged glances before Itachi spoke up. "Ryuga's abilities are unique, and his training will need to be tailored to those abilities. He needs someone who can push him to his limits and help him understand his powers."
Minato nodded, acknowledging the wisdom in Itachi's words. "That's exactly my concern. Do either of you have any suggestions?"
Shisui tapped his chin, thinking deeply. "What about Kurenai Yuhi? She's an expert in genjutsu and has a calm, understanding nature. She might be able to help Ryuga with the mental aspects of his abilities."
Itachi shook his head slightly. "Kurenai is an excellent jounin, but Ryuga needs someone with a more diverse skill set, someone who can challenge him physically and mentally."
Minato considered this, then turned his gaze to Itachi. "What about you, Itachi? You have a good rapport with Ryuga, and your abilities are well-rounded. You could be the mentor he needs."
Itachi blinked in surprise, not expecting the suggestion. "I... hadn't considered that. My duties with the ANBU keep me quite busy, but if you believe it's the best course of action, I would be honored."
Shisui grinned. "I think Itachi would be a great mentor for Ryuga. But if that's not feasible, there's also Asuma Sarutobi. He's strong, skilled, and experienced. He could be another good option."
Minato nodded, taking in their suggestions. "Both of you make excellent points. I'll need to think about this carefully. Ryuga's future is too important to rush into a decision."
As they left the office, Itachi and Shisui felt a renewed sense of purpose. They knew that whoever ended up mentoring Ryuga, the young shinobi was destined for greatness. And with Minato's careful consideration, they were confident that the right choice would be made.
