Chapter 39 - Qi

In Ailer's home in Queens, New York, in the Underground Room, Ailer looked at his palm, where an invisible energy was constantly rotating.

This invisible energy was the 'Qi' that Madame Gao had struck into his body. This Qi was originally meant to damage Ailer's internal organs, but Ailer used his superpower, 'Energy Traction,' to control it, preventing himself from being injured.

As soon as Ailer returned home, he immediately began to study this energy called 'Qi'.

"Let me see what exactly you are," Ailer said, looking at the ball of Qi in his palm, as he separated a small wisp of it and used his superpower to guide it through his body.

Soon, this wisp of Qi had traveled through Ailer's entire body. It was a very peculiar sensation, like a subtle electric current passing through his whole body, but unlike an electric current, it did not cause harm to the human body. To be precise, it was like the bioelectricity that the human body naturally possesses.

After experiencing the marvels of Qi, Ailer combined it with his own conjectures and said, "Qi is indeed an energy that humans can harness, and its execution method is very simple, but how exactly is it produced?"

At this moment, Ailer recalled Madame Gao's peculiar breathing method, so he began to imitate it in earnest.

When he first started learning, Ailer felt a slight strain, but this breathing method could force out the latent cardiopulmonary function. Maintaining this breathing method for a long time would greatly improve physical fitness.

Ailer maintained this breathing method for several hours. The sky outside was almost bright, but he did not feel any Qi being produced in his body.

"Am I missing something?" Ailer frowned and began to think about what he had done wrong, so he started to review and reflect.

Firstly, the nature of Qi is similar to bioelectricity.

Secondly, the controller of Qi needs very strong cardiopulmonary ability.

These were the conditions Ailer could confirm, but he felt that something was missing.

Qi is not a common ability; even people in K'un-Lun need to spend ten or twenty years to master it. If training starts from a young age, human physical fitness peaks in their twenties. So what exactly requires more than just hard training?

In an instant, Ailer's mind seemed to explode, and a word appeared in his mind—Mental Power.

The generation of Qi requires Mental Power.

In the original timeline, Iron Fist Daniel Rand did indeed meditate frequently. It seems that the cultivation of Qi is closely related to Mental Power, and meditation is a way to concentrate one's mind.

"Highly concentrated Mental Power and a tempered body, these should be the basic elements for producing Qi," Ailer said, combining his conjectures.

A tempered body was not difficult for Ailer. He could now deliver a punch with nearly four hundred kilograms of force, and he could run a hundred-meter dash in under 9 seconds. Many athletes, even with performance-enhancing drugs, were no match for Ailer.

The difficulty lay in concentrating his mind. Ailer had no one to guide him in meditation, and doing it haphazardly would waste time.

"But if it's just about concentrating all one's Mental Power, wouldn't high-intensity weightlifting also achieve that?" Ailer had a flash of inspiration. People can also highly concentrate their attention during exercise, which is the legendary 'entering tranquility through movement'.

Having thought of a method, Ailer immediately took action. He increased the weight of the dumbbells in the Underground Room, making their weight far exceed his current tolerance.

'Whoosh—'

Coming to the dumbbells, Ailer breathed according to Madame Gao's method, then extended his hands and began to grip the dumbbells.

As his arms exerted force, all of Ailer's attention was concentrated on the dumbbells. He lifted the dumbbells over his head, and the weight, which exceeded his limit, made him desperately mobilize all his strength.

And at this time, Ailer did not forget to maintain that unique breathing method.

After about three minutes, Ailer felt a warm current appear in his heart.

Ailer understood, he had succeeded!

As Ailer breathed more frequently, the warm current began to flow throughout Ailer's body, strengthening Ailer's physique. Although the improvement was not significant, the effect was more noticeable than strenuous exercise.

The cultivation of Qi was quite physically demanding, especially for a 'beginner' like Ailer.

About two hours later, Ailer finally finished his workout.

Clang—

The heavy dumbbell directly smashed onto the ground. Sweat drenched Ailer's clothes. He looked straight ahead, then threw a straight punch.

'Thud'

A muffled sound echoed in the air, and the punch's wind was stronger than ever before.

Ailer slowly retracted his fist and stood still. He looked at his right fist and murmured, "The intensity completely depends on my own strength... This is indeed the most suitable strengthening method for me right now."

This was a U.S. comic World, not a fantasy martial arts World. 'Qi' was not mainstream, and its combat power ceiling could not compare to first-tier heroes and villains who could destroy nations and explode stars.

Just like Madame Gao, who diligently trained for over four hundred years, her actual destructive power was still inferior to a suddenly mutated monster like Abomination.

However, the greatest benefit of Qi was that it didn't rely on others, and every bit of progress could be seen.

This was what Ailer liked most about 'Qi'.

"It's a pity, I can't yet incorporate Qi cultivation into my daily life, otherwise my progress would be even faster."

Ailer moved his shoulders, but he had no complaints in his heart. He was only just getting started, and he couldn't be overly ambitious.

After finishing his workout, Ailer rested for a while, took a shower, and ate a meal. The time also came to the afternoon.

Refreshed, Ailer sat in front of the computer and began to search for clues with the Spider Smartphone.

"United Construction Company..."

Last night's freighter was ostensibly delivering goods to 'United Construction Company' from the Far East, which is why a report sheet floated to Ailer's feet.

This company definitely had a connection with The Hand, and Ailer planned to start his investigation with this company.

As the Spider Smartphone began to work, the dirt on 'United Construction Company' also began to surface.

"Tsk, this company's hands are really dirty. The lightest crime is violent forced demolition."

Ailer noticed the crimes of 'United Construction Company' and then began to investigate the construction projects this company had contracted. The Hand might have their strongholds in those buildings.

After some searching, Ailer found several suspicious buildings, and he planned to investigate them tonight.

'Ding-dong'

The doorbell interrupted Ailer's thoughts. He frowned slightly, then got up and went downstairs.

Ailer opened the door to see a somewhat thin but handsome boy standing at the doorway. The boy looked a little nervous. Ailer noticed this and took the initiative to break the silence.

"Peter? Why are you here to see me?"

The person's full name was Peter Parker, Ailer's neighbor, and also New York's future good neighbor, Spider-Man, but currently Peter was just an ordinary high school student.
