KITTY
I sank quickly, and my heart pounded furiously as fear chilled me all the way to the bone. I tried swimming, but couldn't figure out up from down.
The water was getting colder and darker, and I realized I was going the wrong direction.
Then I felt someone grab me around the waist and swim upward, toward warmth, toward brightness. We burst from the water and I gulped for air, choking on the salty water clogging my mouth.
"Hang on, sweetness," said Mac. "Don't let go."
I clung to him as he reached a level in the water where his feet got purchase on the sand. He walked us all the way to the shore, and when I tried to slip
from his grasp, he refused to release me.
"Are you all right, Kitty?"
I nodded and looked at Mac, feeling like a cranky wet cat. Mac's gaze was filled with tenderness.
"You almost gave me a heart attack," he said. "Are you sure you're okay? Never mind. I'm taking you to the medic hut. No. I'll fly in a specialist from
Switzerland."
