Chapter 23 - part 25: The First Training Clash

Joe Hyper: "So you have wind magic?"

"Yes, with your permission." (sarcastically)

Joe Hyper: "So you're that Tom Breach they wrote about in the Church newspaper.

Well unfortunately, right now no one else in this Academy has wind magic.

You're the only one.

For now, go to the fire magic group.

I'll talk to the principal about you later."

I went to the fire group—Hardy Melodia and her assistant, Chloe Melodia.

Chloe: "Hi, Tom."

"Hi."

Hardy didn't react at all.

Naturally—she was extremely arrogant, and because of that selfishness, she killed the closest person to herself.

Joe Hyper: "Alright, about your groups—

in the class I teach, you'll have activities like group battles, research outside the Walls…

meaning you'll go outside the Walls as a group with Academy permission."

He put his hand on my shoulder.

"…and today I'm going to make you suffer with hard training."

Then Marin entered.

Marin: "Joe, sorry to ruin your fun, but the principal said there will be no hard training today.

You'll finish class quickly—so last year doesn't repeat."

Joe Hyper: "And if I refuse?" (smirks)

Marin: "Then you'll be dealing not with me or the principal—

but with James Hyper himself, the head of your own family."

Joe immediately panicked.

Joe Hyper: "Okay, okay, don't worry.

It won't be like last year. I promise."

Marin: "I hope so."

He left.

Joe put his hand on his forehead.

Joe Hyper: "Great… now you made me lose face in front of these kids.

How are they supposed to take my words seriously now?"

I almost laughed.

Joe Hyper: "What are you laughing at, Tom?"

"Huh? Nothing, master."

My reaction: "…"

Kids' reaction: "^…^"

Joe Hyper: "Ugh… anyway, because of your yearly tradition,

you won't have hard training today.

But starting tomorrow…"

We sat on the ground and began meditating.

End of ClassI was eating in the Academy cafeteria

when Den walked toward me.

Den: "Hi."

He extended his hand.

I shook it.

Den: "So, Tom Breach…

I finally realized you're the kid the Church newspaper called the Miracle of the Gods of Light three years ago."

"No, no, please don't."

Den: "Well, my father and I were very curious about you,

but the Church didn't want to reveal your identity."

"That's good."

Den: "Yes, because you know how much the Church's enemies want to harm it—

and you're one of the main pillars of the Church.

They'd attack you."

"…Well, my father is very curious to meet you.

I'll definitely take you to him later.

You're the miracle of the Gods of Light,

and you're very important to the Hyper family—especially my father.

Now, besides the Church's support, you also have the Hyper family's support.

So if you ever have a problem, tell us—we'll solve it."

"No thanks, I don't need anything."

Den: "Also, it's the duty of the Church's followers—

the Hyper family—

to support the miracle of the Gods of Light.

And from now on, you're my main rival.

I used to think Henry Flor was my main rival,

but now I realize you're the one favored by the Gods.

I want their attention on me, not you.

So be aware—our rivalry starts now."

He left without waiting for my answer.

Naturally—Den was extremely competitive.

He always tried to compete with Henry,

but was always second.

God… what should I even say?

I continued eating—

but then Hardy and Chloe came toward me.

Could I just eat one normal meal today?

Chloe: "Hi again, Tom."

"Hi."

Chloe: "I'm really happy we're in the same group.

A lot of people say you're the reincarnation of Kristen Clark—

one of the heroes of the First Wall War and Flor's wife."

"Well, I'm happy too."

Chloe wanted to continue talking—

Hardy: "Shut up."

Chloe: "What?"

Hardy: "I said shut up and let us eat."

Chloe was forced to stay silent,

playing with her food sadly.

I lost my appetite.

It reminded me of how Lucas treated me when I had no magic.

All nobles are the same.

Third BellThe third bell rang.

A teacher entered—

everyone was shocked and excited except me.

Because it was Ziar.

Ziar walked to the teacher's desk and began speaking.

Ziar: "Hello. I'm Ziar.

You've probably heard of me.

But some of you haven't just heard of me—

you've seen me before and trained under me."

He looked at me.

Everyone realized I had trained under Ziar—

I was his student,

his replacement chosen by the Church.

"…I'm your magic enhancement teacher.

I'll strengthen your magic.

But first—

it depends on how many stars your magic has.

We'll find out now."

"And second—

it depends on your effort.

Some of you know this."

He looked at me again.

"If you give up easily and don't care about your training,

I won't care about you either.

So be careful.

Now come one by one and place your hands on the orb."

Everyone went.

I was last.

The orb changed color based on magic type—

dark blue for ice (Henry),

red for fire (Hardy).

I placed my hand.

It turned silver.

Ziar: "Well, your magic is five‑star.

But there's something else."

He looked at the others and explained:

"As you know, ice magic—belonging to the Flor family—

is currently the strongest magic in the Empire.

But your magic rivals Henry and Adriana Flor's six‑star ice magic."

Our honest reaction: "…"

Den: "Why is the teacher like this?"

Ziar: "Because wind magic is destructive.

It can easily control fire and ice—

increase or decrease them.

Understand now?"

Den: "Yes."

Ziar: "Now pay attention to what I write on the board."

The next class was with Caesar Roma—

who had object‑control magic

and a clownish personality,

always laughing and making bad jokes.

After classes, I was heading to my room

when Henry approached me.

God, why am I stuck with these people?

Henry: "Well, I wanted to say—"

"Yes, I know.

I'm your main rival.

You have a tough rivalry with me."

I left without caring about his reaction.

Tom's Dorm RoomI lay on my bed, thinking about everything.

To compete with Henry and Den,

I'd need intense training in the coming days.

God, how much suffering will I go through?

I looked at the flower Sister Patolina gave me.

I placed it by the window—

to remind myself that even in this ugly world,

beautiful things exist.

Then I remembered what Marin said about the strange tradition.

Wait…

Oh God, I'm doomed.

Because of the strange tradition,

I have to go to the assembly hall immediately.

This tradition was because of Flor—

famous for escaping ninjas while trying to deliver an important message before a battle.

The enemy ninjas wouldn't let him.

Now I had to reach the assembly hall before 12,

or ninjas wouldn't let me.

A strange tradition—

but still enforced.

I quickly opened the door to leave—

and with my luck, a ninja was in the hallway coming toward me.

I had no choice.

I ran toward the girls' dormitory to escape—

sure all the girls had already gone to the hall.

I opened the door—

strangely, it was unlocked.

The ninja tried to attack,

but I slammed the door shut,

knocking him out.

Ahh, satisfying.

I headed toward the girls' exit—

but someone screamed.

I hesitated—should I go or not?

I took the risk and went to help.

I opened the door—

a ninja stood with a wooden staff,

confused because Hardy was standing in the middle of the room

wearing only a towel.

She screamed when she saw me.

I panicked—

but cast a whirlwind spell

and knocked the ninja out.

Hardy screamed at me to leave.

"Okay, okay, sorry!"

I left.

Oh God…

for the first time, I saw a girl wearing only a towel.

I had never even seen my sister or mother like that—

let alone a stranger.

I was about to leave when Hardy screamed again.

Hardy: "Wait! Come with me!"

"What? I need to go!"

Hardy: "Wait!"

God… I had to stay.

I didn't want to deal with her screaming.

She finally agreed to come out.

We ran toward the hall—

ninjas chasing us.

To my surprise, Den Hyper was also late and joined us.

Then William Jordan.

Then Henry and Denris came from the upper hall.

"Henry, why are you late?"

Henry: "Well, I—"

"You're a hero. You shouldn't be late."

Henry: "What did you call me?!"

I realized my mistake.

"Nothing. Just go."

Den: "Excuse me."

He used his lightning magic and rushed to the hall.

Then William went.

Then Henry and Denris.

Only Hardy and I remained.

"Excuse me."

Hardy: "What!?"

I grabbed her hand and ran.

Finally, we arrived.

The principal was giving a speech.

All students, teachers, and the principal stared at us—

actually at me, Hardy, Den, Henry, Denris, and William.

Mostly at me and Hardy—

because I was holding her hand.

I quickly let go.

Principal: "These are irresponsible children who arrived late.

We'll decide their punishment.

Now go sit."

We sat.

Hardy: "Ugh, why isn't this ending?"

She was right—

it was torture.

Our punishment was cleaning the entire first and second halls.

And everyone mocked us.

"It ends when it's done."

I laughed.

Hardy: "Don't laugh, pervert!

With that stupid crooked smile!

It's all your fault!"

"If I wasn't a pervert,

you'd have arrived even later—

and instead of cleaning two halls,

you'd be cleaning the entire Academy."

I laughed again.

Hardy's face turned red with anger.

Hardy: "Shut up, pervert!"

"What did you say, angry tomato girl?"

Hardy threw her broom and came toward me.

Hardy: "I'll destroy you!"

"Haha, I'm scared.

Look, my hands and legs are shaking.

What are you going to do, angry tomato girl?"

Hardy: "I said shut up, pervert!"

William: "Stop it, children."

"YOU shut up…"

Hardy and I said at the same time.

William: "What did you say?!"

And the argument between me, Hardy, and William

continued until we finished cleaning the hall.
