Chapter 129 - Greed

"Alright, then I won't keep you. I wish you a smooth journey."

"I believe that with your strength, you will certainly achieve great results at the Indigo League!"

After cleaning up the battlefield and realizing Gu Yuan genuinely did not want to join the Rangers at the moment, Kawaguchi stopped pressing the issue and personally saw Gu Yuan off. Kawaguchi also promised that once the files were archived, the reward would be issued to Gu Yuan immediately. Gu Yuan was not too concerned about this, as it was a League regulation.

When the target's strength reaches Ace Rank, once the threat is resolved, the incident must be documented in a proper file, and their Pokémon must be handled appropriately to avoid future trouble. Although their time together was brief, Gu Yuan did not think that his small reward was worth an Ace Rank trainer's worry.

After bidding farewell to Kawaguchi, Gu Yuan continued his journey, heading toward Celadon City.

Kawaguchi, on the other hand, retreated with the Rangers. To deal with Gul's Poaching Group, these Rangers had been drawn from various places, and now they naturally had to return. The final organizing work fell to the strongest person, Kawaguchi himself. Fortunately, he had a secretary to help; otherwise, the task of organizing these files would truly give Kawaguchi a headache.

Soon, all the documents were organized, the rewards were requested and issued, and the files were sent to the archives office.

As he brought the file to the archives office, the secretary glanced at Kenta, who was leaning back in his chair, doing nothing, and sighed helplessly. He casually placed the file on the desk, then turned and left.

In dangerous departments like the Rangers and Investigators, it was rare for the spoiled scions of powerful families to join. After all, sending these individuals to the front lines would not only put themselves in danger but also implicate their teammates. However, this did not mean there was no place for them in the Rangers and Investigators. Back-end departments, such as the archives office, were still technically part of the Rangers but posed no danger. These were undoubtedly the best places for these spoiled scions to "gild their resumes."

Kenta, who worked in the archives office, was one of them. Relying on his family's power, he had managed to achieve quasi-Ace strength, meaning he was on the verge of breaking through to the Ace Rank. Yet, to this day, he had never been on the front line, spending his days messing around in the archives office. Those familiar with him knew well that in a real wilderness battle, even an ordinary Senior Rank trainer could easily defeat him.

Kenta smacked his lips and stretched. After an unknown amount of time, he woke up from his nap. He glanced at the file on the desk, pretended to flip through it, and was about to toss it aside casually.

Suddenly, Kenta saw the words "Annihilape."

Although Kenta was a spoiled scion, he had received considerable training from his family and was knowledgeable about some rare Pokémon. This included Annihilape, which was known as one of the hardest Pokémon to evolve. However, because of its handsome appearance, Annihilape had won the affection of many, and Kenta was one of them.

Kenta had previously hired people to raise a few Primeape, but none of them had successfully evolved. The idea of owning one, however, had stayed with him.

Now, seeing this rare Pokémon show up again, Kenta grew interested and began to carefully examine the file. When Kenta saw that this rare Pokémon had actually been raised by a mere nobody, the envy in his heart gradually turned into jealousy!

Kenta knew very well that he was there just to pass the time, and he also knew that others looked down on him. But they had no idea that he, too, looked down on them. Especially when he saw them desperately risking their lives for mere resources, Kenta found it hilarious, as if watching a pack of dogs fighting over bones. And he was the owner of this pack of dogs.

After he finished gilding his resume, he would become one of their masters, whether these "dogs" liked it or not.

Now, Kenta saw a supposed lowly nobody owning something that he himself had failed to obtain, and being considered a genius by the other "dogs," which made them look down on Kenta. His jealousy grew even stronger!

Gradually, a murderous intent was born in Kenta. When this thought first appeared, Kenta felt no fear; instead, he felt slightly fanatical. Although he had not personally killed anyone, he was aware of some of the dark dealings of his family, so he felt no great resistance to the idea of murder. Especially since the person Kenta intended to kill was a so-called genius.

If someone knew that this so-called genius died at the hands of a spoiled scion like me, it would surely be very interesting!

Thinking this, Kenta began to seriously plot his move. If you haven't eaten pork, haven't you at least seen a pig run? Having grown up in his family, Kenta understood how some things should be done.

Kenta's plan was simple: first, deduce Gu Yuan's location, so he could move forward with his subsequent actions. This wasn't difficult to guess; given Gu Yuan's last reported location, Kenta believed he was highly likely heading to Celadon City to challenge the Gym.

Second was how to strike. Kenta had a very clear understanding of his own strength. He knew that in a direct confrontation, he might not be able to defeat Gu Yuan, especially since Gu Yuan had Alakazam, which could help them escape.

If Kawaguchi had known Kenta's thoughts, he would have just laughed and told Kenta to stop dreaming. With Kenta's meager strength, Gu Yuan would be asking him not to die two minutes into the fight.

However, Kenta also had his advantage: his identity as a Ranger. From Kenta's perspective, people like Gu Yuan were most trusting of League members and would generally let down their guard. If he merely presented himself as a Ranger, he could easily approach Gu Yuan and land a fatal blow! Afterward, Kenta would naturally find someone to train that Annihilape, turning it into his own Pokémon. In Kenta's view, a Pokémon was just a tool; as long as you found a good "repair man," anyone could become its master.

Once he had a rough plan, Kenta began to implement it. To ensure the plan's success, Kenta also prepared to mobilize his family's intelligence network to lock down Gu Yuan's position, ensuring he wouldn't miss. At this moment, Kenta was filled with excitement, like a child with a new toy.

First, he requested leave, and then Kenta began contacting his family. This time, to prove himself, Kenta deliberately concealed his true motive, saying only that he was interested in this trainer named Gu Yuan.

Little did he know that his actions were too naive and his true intentions were easily guessed. But Kenta's father, Tatao Fukuda, not only didn't stop him but provided him with considerable support, even sending two quasi-Ace trainers for discreet protection. If Kenta succeeded, great. If he failed, someone was there to bail him out; even if they couldn't defeat Gu Yuan, the two trainers could reveal their identities and force Gu Yuan to leave.

This was Tatao Fukuda's confidence in the Fukuda family.
