"Sir, how's mama feeling?" Magret asked.
"Don't worry dear, your mum is kicking fine. Once her heart heals partially we will start with the surgeries." Dr Thompson said.
"Doctor, please can I know what may cause the cancer? Because the last time I checked it's not genital." Celine said
"Ermm it's Endometriosis....." He said.
"Sorry, what is endo..." Magret asked.
"Endometriosis is an infection that grows in the ovary which ends up causing cancer." Dr Thompson said.
"Sorry, I'm asking a lot of questions, but what exactly is the cause of this endo, whatever?" Celine asked, looking very curious.
Dr Thompson could sense the curiosity in her eyes and he's plotting a way of handling her suspicion.
"Well, scientists are still looking for its causes," Thompson said and left the hospital room immediately to avoid further questions.
At this point, Celine is convinced about her theory that something is off with Mr Wilfred and the company is true. All she needs to do now is find out exactly what is going on.
She gave her mum some flowers and food and left for work. On reaching she was told that the CEO wants to see her.
"Hi, Celine." Mr Wilfred said.
"Hi, sir….I mean Wilfred." Celine said. She is still not used to calling him by his first name.
"I want to go grab dinner and I want you to join me." Mr Wilfred said parking up some files.
"Do I have the right to decline? Celine asked.
"No you don't," Wilfred uttered.
Celine accepted and they headed out. On their way to Wilfred's car, they saw Sinclair who looked surprised.
She made a weird look at them before stepping out.
"Oh my goodness, sir, I'm going to lose my job," Celine muttered.
"Calm down. You won't. By the way, she's just a manager and I am the CEO." Wilfred said.
"Who is she? I mean Sinclair. Is she your sister or wife? Celine asked.
"Why do you always ask too many questions? Wilfred asked, opening the car door for Celine.
"Curiosity I think." She said,
"Sinclair is one of the shareholders' daughters. She carries all the workload while I only get to sit in my office and do nothing." Wilfred said.
He didn't tell Celine everything. The company shareholders are planning to hold a contract marriage for Celine and Wilfred. Mr Wilfred is also doing everything in his power to avoid that.
"Aren't we supposed to be heading to a restaurant? Celine asked when she noticed that Mr Wilfred was driving to his house.
"Ermm…No," Wilfred said.
"We are heading to my house because I'll be the one to make dinner." He added
"You can cook? Celine asked.
"Of course. Why not? I learnt so much from my mum before…you know." He said.
"I understand. I used to bake a lot with my father when I was younger. The day he left he promised to buy vanilla for cakes while coming back… but he was never going to come back." Celine said. Her voice echoed in silence.
The conversation in the car showed the unrealized bond between them. A few minutes after the discussion, they got home, and Mr Wilfred prepared and served dinner.
"I never knew you could cook so well," Celine said when she tasted his pasta and grilled chicken.
"I could have opened a mini restaurant, but I'm the CEO of Herbal LUXE company." He joked.
"Oh, you got some jokes there," Celine said after laughing hard.
The dinner was smooth and romantic. Celine suddenly started feeling a soft spot for Mr Wilfred. She is comfortable with him that night. They laughed so hard throughout the dinner.
Mr Wilfred, on the other hand, never felt lonely as he used to before. That moment with Celine was something money can't buy.
At some point, his house help cleared the dish area while they went out to receive fresh air at his comfy arena.
"You know I've never had this moment in a long time." Wilfred broke the silence.
"Me neither." She said smiling and staring at him.
The tension between them became intense. They started coming closer with the intention to kiss. Suddenly, Wilfred and I received a call.
It was Dr Thompson again. He left to answer his call while Celine packed her stuff. Why is DR Thompson always calling him? What could they be hiding? Maybe coming to his place was a totally bad idea.
"Sorry, that was my doctor." Mr Wilfred said after taking the call.
"Why is he always calling you? Are you sick? Celine asked out of curiosity. She knows very well that Mr Wilfred is not sick but she wants to know what he's going to say.
"No. I'm not sick. He calls from time to time to check up on me. Wilfred said.
"Okay, Dr Thompson aside. How are you feeling?" He continued.
"I mean, I feel great, but I have to get back to work," Celine said, removing his hand which was on hers.
"Okay… in that case I'll drop you off," Wilfred said.
Mr Wilfred drove Celine back to the company.
Celine was ordered by Mrs. Joana to clear and clean up an old office as a punishment for being late.
Celine found something strange while clearing the old office. It's a bunch of files with her father's passport tucked in it. Her hands trembled as she quickly slipped a few papers into her bag when she went to drop the waste.
After working she immediately started going through the papers. One of the papers is a resignation letter her father wrote to the company.
A membership card that is boldly written "Fredrick Johnson" with her father's passport on it. Funny enough her father was one of the chief scientists in the company.
Going through these files made her remember most of her father and daughter moments. She was looking at the file not in an investigation or suspicious mode, but in a reminisce mode. Not until she opened one other file.
She dusted the files and opened them. It's a test result on the hair relaxers. She did not really understand the context, so she folded it inside her bag. In the next paper, there are a bunch of bank statements with a huge amount of money going into her father's account and her father sending them back.
Celine came to the realization that the office she is cleaning belongs to her father. He was trying to do something that seemed like a threat, and someone was trying everything possible to stop him. The files were where her father packed her evidence. Just as she tried to open more, someone came.
"miss johnson. What are you doing beside a trash can holding some dirty papers? The garbage collector wants to throw that away." Mrs Joana said.
