Chapter 17 - Nascence

"Onigiri Salmon, some Soba and dessert. I'll get a fried chicken at the counter too I guess."

Picking out his items one at a time, it didn't take long before he made his way forward till the front counter.

Although unfortunately for him, there stood a very outgoing cashier that's known him from the day he landed on A.Terra.

"If it isn't the boy himself. How are you doing tonight Tosato?" Although whether or not it was his own decision is up to him to decide.

"Don't call me by that name, use my real one instead." Unamused hearing his Japanese nickname, he simply opted to look away.

"Right, right, sorry! It was Oanh right?" Scratching the back of his head, he laughed the error off, continuing to scan Oanh's items. In return, he mildly nodded in agreement, although still unwilling to look into the cashier's eyes.

"Anyways, what brings you here at this time?" Dumbfounded, Oanh broke his protest, raising an eyebrow.

Was the cashier unaware as to why people even come to a convenience store? "Do your job."

"Hahaha! C'mon. Don't be so mean dude!" Oanh looked at him indifferently, he barely had enough willpower to keep the conversation going.

Nonetheless, Oanh answered, in an incredibly robotic and monotone tone. "The nap I took was too long."

On the other hand, the cashier's energy didn't seem to let up at all. Instead, he even raised his voice, startling a few nearby customers.

"Goddam dude! Make sure to sleep properly. Boys at this age should sleep properly. Otherwise you won't grow past 160CM!! Look at me! I'm almost 21 and I'm barely 165CM haha."

"Yeah, yeah. " He responded back in a detached voice, completely uninvolved in the conversation at hand.

At last, the cashier finished scanning all the products. Flailing his arm around like some sort of stage play he then proceeded to proclaim the bill somewhat loudly. Although his voice wasn't raised this time.

"The bill will be 8 Valuta! Or 800 Yen! Or 80kr! Which one would you like to pay for, good sir?" He asked with a smug expression that could only be described as, "Pretty cool I know my currencies right?".

Unimpressed, Oanh stood in complete silence, with money in his hands. All the noise had almost made him forget. "Add two fried chicken cutlets too."

"I'll take that as a compliment! Thanks for stopping by!" At last he finished packaging Oanh's items as he continued rambling.

"See ya." Walking off slowly, the cashier glanced at Oanh, thinking about what circumstance could've led to such a personality. How many days has it been since Oanh got here? Almost two years, yet he hadn't witnessed him walk alongside anyone at all, except for maybe his guardian.

"Oh by the way! Are you making any friends yet?" The question took Oanh slightly off guard, as his pupils grew in slight size. After a brief moment of hesitation, it was decided that there was no point in lying.

"Not really. I don't like hanging around snobbish stabilizers anyways." Turning around, Oanh continued off, without pause. The pair of sliding doors opened his way out, whilst letting in another customer.

"Ohhhh, giving me the shivers man! Cold as always." The cashier solemnly smiled to himself.

There wouldn't be any time to relax though, because the next customer had already made their way to the front. "Excuse me? Is this counter open?"

"Ah! Yes! Welcome and thank you for waiting!"

Seriously. Do your job properly dude.
