Chapter 2 - OTKE Chapter 2: Nazarick Beckons

Darkness and cold were the main themes of this world. In "Helheim," the daytime was short, and even when it was daytime, the sky was a hazy gray.

Hades traveled from the central area to "Helheim," which was located on the edge. He couldn't help but shiver.

Even though he couldn't feel the cold in the game, he was still affected by the eternally gloomy atmosphere.

Since YGGDRASIL updated the large expansion pack "Valkyrie's Downfall," Hades had been in a semi-retired state.

Although he would sometimes update his equipment, it was only out of habit from his previous spending, and eventually, he quit completely.

After a year, coming to the world of YGGDRASIL again, he felt some unfamiliarity. This was understandable, as he hadn't logged in for a long time.

This unfamiliarity also made it take him longer to get to Nazarick. He arrived at "Crystal Plain," which was the border area of "Helheim." To reach "Grenbera Swamp," where the Great Tomb of Nazarick was located, this was the only route.

"Crystal Plain" wasn't named that because the plain was full of crystals. Instead, it was because on this plain covered with plants, the frozen plant leaves were sharp like crystal blades.

Every step would cause damage, and even with "Relic" level armor, you would be cut and suffer a continuous HP loss.

However, Hades wasn't worried because his equipment was "Top-tier," so he naturally wasn't afraid of the negative effects from the environment.

Besides that, there were also mineral-type monsters with decent defense on "Crystal Plain," but they didn't stop Hades.

He wasn't moving on foot but using his flying ability to get to Nazarick. Although there were negative effects in the sky that targeted the human species, with his top-tier equipment, those negative effects were negligible.

Hades sped up, heading towards the Great Tomb of Nazarick located in "Grenbera Swamp," while also checking his backpack.

Most of his main items were in his backpack. The infinite backpack had a capacity of only 500KG, which wasn't quite enough for him, so he had many such backpacks.

As long as you had the materials, you could make them, which was very useful for crafting players.

The materials needed for smelting and production could be categorized and placed in the backpack, saving the trouble of running to the warehouse.

Hades carried so many infinite backpacks for another reason.

This reason involves one of the World Items that Hades possessed: the "Seed of the World Tree."

Compared to other World Items, or even the "Twenty" with their overpowered abilities, the "Seed of the World Tree" wasn't particularly outstanding. Its potential depended on the user's strength.

The effect of the "Seed of the World Tree" was to allow players to freely change their race. In YGGDRASIL, changing race wasn't a very difficult thing to do. With some items and special quests, players could easily change their race.

However, there was one exception in YGGDRASIL. For undead players, changing race relied solely on the "Seed of the World Tree."

If the item's only purpose was to help undead players change race, it would be rather underwhelming as one of only two hundred World Items.

Perhaps the developers realized this, so in addition to changing race, the "Seed of the World Tree" could also store all the data of the races the holder had transformed into.

Specifically, if your current character reached level 100 and you wanted to transform into another race, the item would store all the data of your current race, allowing you to play the other race without worry.

But what if you were leveling up with the transformed race and a high-level player tried to PK you?

The answer was to use the "Seed of the World Tree" to switch to the stored level 100 character, letting the opponent know they messed with the wrong person.

The "Seed of the World Tree" could store the character data of two different races, meaning that Hades had two spare level 100 characters he could switch to, in addition to his main character.

Of course, the two stored races and the currently used race had to be three different races. The "Seed of the World Tree" had a storage limit of only two slots.

If you wanted to store a fourth race besides the currently used race and the two stored races, you would have to delete one of the stored race data.

Therefore, this naturally increased the demand for backpacks. Different characters and classes required different items, and Hades had three characters of three races and class types, so a 500KG backpack capacity was naturally insufficient.

Although in theory, simply expanding with another 500KG backpack would be enough, one of the two races stored by Hades was a completely production-focused class, so three times the backpack capacity was necessary.

Even so, Hades couldn't possibly carry all the materials for every production profession, as there were simply too many.

It wasn't realistic to carry them all. In his guild's personal warehouse, he had countless materials, as well as various semi-finished items and equipment he used to improve his crafting proficiency.

As Hades familiarized himself with the long-unseen YGGDRASIL interface and replied to the six guild members one by one, he was about to reach his destination.

"Poisonous Purple Swamp," huh..."

Hades looked at the location indicated on the map in the YGGDRASIL interface.

"Hmm... "Grenbera Swamp" is deep within the "Poisonous Purple Swamp." Almost there," Hades said to himself.

Although he had a magic caster class stored and could use teleportation magic, the map of YGGDRASIL was very large, and many areas prohibited teleportation.

Unfortunately, those areas were often necessary to pass through, so traveling in YGGDRASIL was quite time-consuming.

Watching the time until the YGGDRASIL server shutdown draw closer, Hades realized that he wouldn't be able to invade Nazarick and use the second World Item he had worked so hard to obtain.

The remaining time wasn't enough for him to do anything else, but at least going to Nazarick for a glance was a way to settle things with his past goals.

As he grew older, Hades gradually lost his passion for the game. Perhaps it was because his real life was more fulfilling than the virtual world, but in any case, YGGDRASIL was a memory from his "chuuni" phase.

For example, his name in the game was "Hahaha Hades." Hades was the Greek god of the underworld, and during his chuuni phase, he thought the name was very unique.

However, because he entered the game a few days late, the name had already been registered by someone else. As a result, when he jokingly typed "Hahaha Hades," it was successfully registered.

Looking at the time on the YGGDRASIL interface, Hades sighed. The Great Tomb of Nazarick was beneath his feet, but there wasn't enough time.

Looking at the surface structures of Nazarick, Hades remembered that battle from the past. As time passed, that event was just a minor experience in his life, but that time was his youth.

....Say goodbye to the past.....
