"Buy more. It's good for the long run, you know? The others felt the same."
This wasn't how I thought I would start my Saturday. There, before the opened door, I stand looking at what just uttered words of persuasion to me. A bird—the bird. I didn't know what kind it was, either a crow or a raven. I didn't have any reason to believe it, but I did anyway. After all, when they saw me opening the box, there was a glint in their eyes. One that I had never seen.
I might not understand, but I felt that it might bring me into a much more positive light. The main goal here was to stay out of negative light, as opposed to be seen in a positive light. I got a notification from an e-commerce app. I usually ignore such things, but now, I'll try to see what it is.
It seemed that one of the popular fashion brands had released a new jacket. I thought over buying it or not. It was expensive, but nothing I couldn't handle. Maybe if I skip a few lunch I could cover the costs until the next paycheck.
"Do it. Buy it." The bird, now roosting over my small plant, uttered once more. I felt that it was ridiculous to listen to a talking bird. I was more focused on that and didn't even realize the prospect of a talking bird is already anomalous in itself. Its persuasion worked. I'd buy it tomorrow. When it would finally hit the shelves in the mall.
The bird flew inside, now it roosts on my kitchen. I didn't know why, how, or even what to think of. I tried kicking it out, but it came back again. I tried again, it came back again. I decided to keep it in my kitchen. I prepared a litter box (I had one in case I would decide to keep a cat, but it never happened, also, do birds even use litter boxes?) at the corner of the kitchen room.
Since it Saturday is off day, I had decided to go out and take a stroll.I took a shower first before leaving the apartment with my casual clothing (a white t-shirt, black leggings, and a jacket). I left the bird where it was, I hope it won't dirty my apartment. As I went downstairs, I saw a group of women talking with boisterous voice in the corridor. Maybe it was intentional.
They talked about buying the newest phone model. How her friends expressed envy over it. Then, it spiraled down into how she (the one with the newest phone model) had more authority over them. It was an outrageous conclusion, but her friends seemed to agree with it, albeit reluctantly. I didn't realize it mattered that much. But I'm getting distracted, I quickly went down into the roadside.
From there, I made my way to The Wilsons' coffee shop. It was crowded, more than usual. I saw Jonah struggling to keep the customers at bay. Even the elderly couple—Mr. And Mrs. Wilson had to directly take care of the overwhelming number of people. I waited in line, here for my usual order.
When it was my turn, I wasted no time in ordering a latte and a donut. I exchanged a few words with the distressed Jonah. He told me, "Sorry, we got a bit of an influx here. My sister had an idea of using the new trend for a limited time treat. The 'Takut Latte & Pudding', she proposed. It worked too successfully."
Before I could reply to him, I was swept away by the other customers. I might be holding the line off; it enraged them. Expected course of actions. I stepped outside; it wasn't any better from the inside. Every chair was occupied by someone. They snapped pictures of the limited menu with their phone—it was the same model the woman on the corridor has, and probably uploaded it to their social media.
I didn't linger there for long. I quickly went into the park. The sunlight was there, but I didn't feel warm at all. Now, I began to notice even more of the dolls and new phone models carried by other people. I didn't realize how people have similar taste to each other.
The stroll around the park didn't yield the result I expected. Maybe because it was Autumn. The air was cold, too cold for my liking. There, I stood before a fountain. I watched as the water flowed out and created such a familiar shape. That was, until a girl with a pouch of coins appeared beside me. She threw the entirety of the pouch there, leaving no coins left. Then, she prayed with her hands clasped with each other.
"I pray that I could get all those shiny new things. But for the most, I wish I could get the new high heels from XX brand..." With that, after what felt like minutes, she left the fountain in such a carefree manner.
I knew it was ridiculous; bullshit, to say. Yet, I took out a coin of my own. Threw it into the fountain and prayed for the same things as the girl from before. I replaced the shoes with something else, the newest phone.
After that, I went back home. The bird was still there, unmoving. Then, it spoke to me, "Someone's been praying. Buy more, rewarded more!"
Frankly, it didn't make sense. But what made sense in the first place? I didn't know how it could speak, or why it recommended me to buy more things. But it does its job wonderfully. So I started listening to it.
I had some fried eggs and bread for dinner. It wasn't bad, but could be better. I changed and went into bed.
I slept soundly, though there was some muddled nagging rhat I could hear.
