"Would you let me stay?" I asked her in a whisper.
"What would you do staying here? Kash is getting married," she said, folding her arms across her chest and tapping her foot on the ground.
"Unless he has given you hope," she added, and I sniffled again.
"You have made a deal with me, Mother, and I want to make one with you now," I said, taking a deep breath, but I kept hiccuping from crying too much and holding back my tears.
"In exchange for the cure, I want freedom from you. I want to be left alone. Do not worry, I will not stay here with Kash, because you are right. He is no saint either. But I have every right to go and start fresh somewhere else," I told her, hoping she would give me at least this much leniency and set me free.
But the way she grunted and the way her face turned bitter shocked me.
