Chapter 12 - 12

That's right!" Mr. and Mrs. Jason said in unison.

"You've gone too far. How have I offended you?" Li Kang exclaimed.

"Last time, you sold a protective amulet to little Bill next door, claiming it would protect him from harm. But the day before yesterday, he attended a gang negotiation. Everyone else was fine, but he took a bullet to the head because the other party's gun went off accidentally.

Bill was a good kid, always helping us out. But because he bought your amulet, he died so young. How dare you say you haven't offended me?" Mrs. Jason grew angrier with each word.

Angela was startled. She touched the amulet around her neck and felt a chill down her spine.

"Your amulet is real, there's no problem with it," Li Kang explained helplessly.

"What's this clause about? 'The cost of casting a spell, I bear one-third for you'?" Angela pointed at a clause in the parchment.

Li Kang frowned and looked at it. "It just means that when a sorcerer casts a spell, there's a small price to pay, usually just a minor headache or something. You bear a little of it for me. You're a vampire, it's no problem for you."

"Then what about this one? 'Lethal blow, I bear three times for you'?" Angela's eyes gleamed dangerously. "I've read quite a few fantasy novels, and let me tell you, I was obsessed with them when I was a kid. You'd better not treat me like an amateur. This is clearly a magic contract. If I sign it, does that mean I have to die for you three times?"

Li Kang couldn't explain this clause, as it was already written very clearly: if Li Kang encountered a fatal attack, Angela would have to bear these three attacks.

"Aren't you a vampire? For a normal person, these attacks would be deadly, but for you, they're like a light drizzle. It's no problem. This just shows how close we are, my dear Angela. We need to look forward. This tiny clause, just ignore it," Li Kang said with a grin.

"Ignore it? Believe it or not, I'll rip out your throat right now! Doesn't this mean I become your human shield? While I'm grateful you saved me, I'm not so pathetic as to die for you. This clause must be deleted." Angela crossed out the clause on the parchment.

"We can still negotiate. If it really doesn't work, you can bear half the damage for me. After all, if I die, you won't be well off, right?" Li Kang, failing to trick Angela, adopted a softer approach.

"Don't say I'm heartless. I'll bear half the damage for you, but only once!" Angela swiftly amended the contract and signed her name at the very end.

Damn it, Li Kang sighed. He had thought he was lucky to take in a vampire to use as a human shield.

He hadn't expected this backup human shield to be a law student. The rules and regulations he set up couldn't fool her at all, and he had lost a perfect opportunity. But it wasn't a complete loss. As long as he had blood wine, Angela would have to obey him. A vampire's abilities were still very powerful, and with her around, many cases would be much easier to handle in the future.

After these two experiences, Angela was even more cautious. She went back and forth, taking three hours to finally sign the document.

The next question was where Angela would live. Li Kang generously offered to welcome Angela to warm his bed, which earned him a roll of Angela's eyes.

Mrs. Jason had many spare rooms. She kindly arranged for Angela to stay next to her own room and repeatedly advised Angela to cherish life and stay away from Li Kang. She also told her many stories about Li Kang's past schemes and how he had harmed people.

Angela had already experienced Li Kang's character during the signing stage. She didn't need Mrs. Jason to tell her; she was already on high alert.

Li Kang told Angela that as long as the blood wine's effect hadn't worn off, she could survive in sunlight, but too much exposure to the sun would be fatal to her.

After settling Angela in late into the night, Li Kang went to the corner store to buy a pack of cigarettes. He returned upstairs and watched the news. The news was broadcasting a shocking report: a green giant, appearing out of nowhere, had attacked New York City and engaged in a fierce firefight with the military at a university, resulting in heavy military losses.

The Hulk, that name immediately came to Li Kang's mind. The Hulk was the result of a gamma experiment accident that transformed a Dr. Bruce Banner into the raging green giant. This big oaf wasn't very intelligent, but his strength, endurance, and regeneration were among the highest of all superheroes. And the angrier he got, the stronger he became, reportedly without limit.

Everything has its limits. For sorcerers, limits are especially important. The reason the Hulk's strength seems boundless is simply that the depth of his power hasn't been fully explored.

The Hulk wouldn't just disappear. Such a large target had nowhere to hide. Perhaps he had already gone somewhere else, or had transformed back into Dr. Banner. But no matter what, superheroes were appearing one after another, and New York City would become a battlefield. Major battles would be fought here. The thought of moving flashed through Li Kang's mind, but it quickly vanished. No one could drive him from his home, not even the Hulk.

Following the news of the Hulk, another report surfaced: Daredevil had appeared again. This time, he raided a Japanese karate dojo in Hell's Kitchen. Reportedly, at least thirty Japanese karate masters had their limbs broken, a spectacular sight. However, the dojo owner, a Japanese man named Shin, denied losing anything.

Another inconspicuous piece of news caught Li Kang's attention: a serial killer was operating in Hell's Kitchen. Victims of the serial killer were found to have been extensively bled, leading to low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. According to official reports, this was believed to be the work of a pervert who fancied himself a vampire or some kind of demon.

"Idiots, this is the work of a real vampire. Ordinary vampires don't easily come to Hell's Kitchen, let alone injure people and drink their blood. It seems they're looking for Angela." Li Kang lay on the sofa with the TV on, sifting through the day's information to find a breakthrough that would turn everything in his favor.

The next morning, after drinking a lot of beer the night before, Li Kang had fallen asleep on the sofa. His phone suddenly rang. He slid it open and saw it was only seven in the morning.

A call so early certainly meant no good news. Li Kang hung up and rolled over to continue sleeping.

But before he could finish rolling over, his phone rang again. This time, Li Kang impatiently answered.

"Hello, hello, Mr. Li Kang, it's me, Parker! That saliva therapy you mentioned really works! I woke up today feeling fantastic, light as a feather, full of energy, and I even took off my glasses—my vision has returned to normal! Can you believe it?" Parker was extremely excited.

He usually didn't have many friends, just Harry Osborn. But Harry was the heir to the Osborn Corporation, and his father had been unwell recently, so Harry had been taking care of him and had no time for school. Lonely Parker could only think of Li Kang.

"You called me this early just to tell me this? I already told you not to doubt the mysterious wisdom of the East. Since you're fine, that's great. I'm going back to sleep." Li Kang hung up the phone and rolled over to continue sleeping.

Just as he rolled over, the surrounding space suddenly began to ripple like a scrolling screen. This was the Mirror Dimension, a place only sorcerers would go. To avoid affecting the lives of ordinary people in the real world, sorcerers often chose the Mirror Dimension as a battlefield to settle personal grievances.

This was a mirror image of the real world; it looked no different from reality. However, powerful sorcerers could easily manipulate the Mirror Dimension, changing its appearance at will to make it advantageous for themselves. This was somewhat like the movie "Inception," and sorcerers were the dream architects within it.

Li Kang never liked the Mirror Dimension. Being in that dimension felt as if the real world had no connection to oneself. Moreover, the Mirror Dimension was a very fragile dimension, and many forces could easily intervene there. Staying in the Mirror Dimension for too long could easily attract the attention of these forces or entities. Not to mention others, Dormammu and the One-Eyed Abomination were notoriously fond of meddling in the Mirror Dimension.

In the room, several glowing portals suddenly appeared. These were the effects of the Sling Ring, which could open spatial passages to various parts of the world, a basic skill for sorcerers.

Li Kang jumped out of bed. His defensive magic array had been breached with overwhelming force. There were at least thirty opponents, and they were well-prepared, giving him no chance to react. Whoever organized this raid, he had to admit, they did a brilliant job!

A portal opened, and a black man with a flamboyant hairstyle emerged from it.

"Li Kang! Surrender now! You can't win! Get on your knees, and we'll spare your life!" the black man shouted arrogantly.

Li Kang conjured a mystical silver sword and lunged forward, raising his sword to strike the black man's head. The black man was stunned, apparently not expecting Li Kang to attack so decisively even though he was surrounded. He hastily wove a magical net to block Li Kang, but he didn't realize that Li Kang's intimidating overhead strike was merely a feint; the real attack was below.

"Crack!" A sound of crushing testicles came from between the black man's legs. All magic instantly crumbled, and no amount of magical power could resist the excruciating pain of crushed testicles.

"Idiot, I might not win this battle, but winning against you is no problem!" Li Kang kicked the black man back through the portal.

From two other portals emerged a pair of twin sisters. Although they were beautiful, their expressions were very fierce.
