Irvin's POV
I stared at the woman, not quite sure I heard her right.
"They moved?" I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.
The woman nodded, her eyes filled with the kind of sympathy that only made things worse. "Yes. They left last night. Seemed like they were in a hurry."
My brows furrowed. "What do you mean in a hurry?"
She hesitated, looking down before pulling an envelope from the inside of her faded sweater. "Her mother, Juliette, gave this to me. She asked me to pass it to the landlord. Said it was important."
I didn't reach for it yet. I was still trying to piece the words together in my head. None of it made sense.
"I don't understand. What happened? Why would they leave just like that?"
