Irvin's POV
"What the fuck is going on here?"
Caroline's voice sliced through the darkness like a razor.
I didn't bother turning around. My attention stayed locked on Davina, watching her body go rigid with tension. When her eyes met mine, what I saw there made my chest clench uncomfortably.
Terror.
Not her usual defiance or the fire she typically threw my way during our fights.
Pure, raw fear.
Something twisted inside me, wrong and unwelcome.
Before I could think it through, I moved.
My fingers wrapped around Davina's wrist, yanking her back from the car so I could wrench the door open.
Her startled eyes went wide, confusion flickering across her features.
I didn't give her a chance to protest.
I shoved her into the passenger seat.
She gasped, hands scrambling for the seat edge as I slammed the door shut, trapping her inside before she could object.
Taking a steadying breath, I pivoted to face Caroline.
She stared at me like I'd sprouted a second head.
