Irvin's POV
Barnaby's grin stretched wider. "Come on. Don't act clueless. There's clearly someone special. Who is she?"
I paused, uncertainty gripping me.
I couldn't reveal the truth. Not now.
Barnaby might not give a damn that Davina is Chase's sister.
He could be the only family member who wouldn't completely lose it discovering I'm head over heels for Chase Hughes's little sister.
But even so... part of me needed to guard her a bit longer. Like a hidden sanctuary untouched by our world's madness. A refuge where I could still find peace.
"You'll meet her eventually," I said quietly, my tone confident.
Barnaby raised an eyebrow, his grin widening. "Ah, so there is someone."
I rolled my eyes. "Christ, Barnaby. Drop it."
Barnaby chuckled again, and briefly—just briefly—it reminded me of our childhood. Before our father's brutality cast shadows over everything in our lives.
I studied my brother, truly studied him.
