Davina's POV
I had no idea when my legs began moving. They carried me forward without permission, as if desperate to escape the words that had just destroyed everything I thought I knew.
Behind me, Mom's voice rang out, calling my name with rising panic, but the sound felt muted and distant.
Hollow. Remote. Reality seemed to slip away from me.
My hands wouldn't stop shaking, and my chest felt crushed, like someone had placed a boulder there and was pressing down with all their weight.
My thoughts raced in circles, making it impossible to focus on anything.
Suddenly, hands seized my shoulders from behind, spinning me around. I sucked in a sharp breath, about to cry out, but froze when I met Mom's eyes.
"Davina, snap out of it," she said, her tone gentle yet unwavering.
