Davina's POV
I barely slipped through Velvet Crown's doors before my shift started.
My new living situation meant a longer commute, which was a nightmare when I didn't have a car or driver like most Meridian residents.
The public transit was a joke—unreliable, overcrowded, and painfully slow.
I was already wiped out before I even walked inside.
Celeste caught on immediately.
"You look like absolute shit," Celeste said, dragging me aside the second I clocked in. "Are you going to spill what's happening? Or what?"
I paused.
Talking about it was the last thing I wanted. But Celeste never dropped anything, and if I stayed quiet, she'd just keep digging.
So I went with the bare minimum.
"We had to relocate."
Celeste's eyebrows shot up. "Hold on, what? Relocate? Just like that?"
I gave her a nod.
Celeste's worry intensified. "Why?"
I released a soft breath, resting against the counter.
"It's just... everything got messy."
