Davina's POV
I woke before dawn broke.
Sleep had eluded me again, but that was nothing new.
I grabbed my bag, cramming in what little I owned. Some clothes, my phone, a handful of wrinkled bills. For a moment, I considered telling my mother I was leaving, then thought better of it.
I slipped outside, easing the door shut behind me.
The morning air bit at my skin, that sharp cold that only existed before the world stirred awake.
I pulled out my phone and dialed Celeste. Straight to voicemail.
I let out a breath, dragging my hand across my face.
I had nowhere to turn.
Celeste's place was my only shot, but I didn't even have her address. I'd always planned to ask when I needed it, but now? Now I was left with a dead call and zero backup options.
I trudged to the closest bus stop and collapsed onto the bench.
Every muscle screamed with fatigue, my body weighted down, my mind foggy.
